Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed former Barcelona and Spain manager Luis Enrique has become their new head coach.

In his first job since leaving La Roja in December after a disappointing 2022 World Cup, Enrique has signed a two-year contract at Parc des Princes to replace Christophe Galtier, whose departure was also confirmed on Wednesday.

Enrique said: "I'm delighted to be joining Paris in order to enjoy a new experience. It's so exciting to meet new people, to live in this city, to learn a new language and, above all, to manage PSG."

It is the Spaniard's first club role since leaving Barça, where he won two La Liga titles and the Champions League among other silverware, in 2017.

The 53-year-old had previously been in discussions with Tottenham over their manager role before Ange Postecoglou was appointed. PSG accelerated their pursuit in June when it became clear Galtier would no longer be in charge in France's capital.

Galtier, alongside his son John Valovic, was taken in police custody recently relating to charges of discrimination while manager of Nice.

There is plenty of uncertainty for Enrique to navigate in his first few months as PSG manager. Lionel Messi's departure has been confirmed and 90min understands their prime transfer target to replace the World Cup winner is Manchester City's Bernardo Silva, who also has interest from the Saudi Pro League.

Silva is understood to have a close relationship with PSG advisor Luis Campos following their time together at Monaco.
