PSG predicted lineup vs Lyon - Ligue 1
By Max Parsons
Paris Saint-Germain get back to Ligue 1 matters on Sunday night, as they host Lyon at the Parc des Princes.
Mauricio Pochettino's side have thus far maintained a perfect record in the league this campaign, earning 15 points and scoring 16 goals in their first five fixtures. This weekend, they will have to bounce back from a disappointing result in midweek, however. Les Parisiens underwhelmingly picked up a 1-1 draw at Club Brugge, despite Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar all starting together for the first time.
They face a Lyon side who, after a very poor start, have had a rejuvenation in recent weeks. 1-0 and 3-0 victories over Nantes and Strasbourg respectively was followed up with a 2-0 win away at Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday, giving them a lot of pep heading into this clash.
So, to overcome a spirited Lyon side, here's who Pochettino could opt to field on Sunday night.
1. Goalkeeper & Defenders
Gianluigi Donnarumma (GK) - It's a tight battle between Keylor Navas and Donnarumma for the gloves but, following a strong showing in PSG's 4-0 win over Clermont last time out, the Italian could start this one.
Achraf Hakimi (RB) - Has enjoyed a brilliant start to his PSG career and, already on one strike and two assists for the season, he's an obvious starter.
Marquinhos (CB) - The 27-year-old is a staple in French giants' side, having racked up 326 appearances for them so far. He'll captain the side once more on Sunday.
Presnel Kimpembe (CB) - Has become a very strong and reliable defender in recent seasons and, while Sergio Ramos is still absent, is a guaranteed starter.
Abdou Diallo (LB) - Nuno Mendes has impressed in his stints on the field but Diallo has been very bright in all of the club's five Ligue 1 games this season, so he should get another outing here.
2. Midfielders
Ander Herrera (CM) - What a season he's having so far. Already on four goals and two assists this campaign, he has been in sensational form and one of his side's best performers.
Danilo Pereira (CM) - Didn't start as PSG drew with Brugge on Wednesday but could return to the lineup to introduce some stability and assurance - especially given the dire showings of Leandro Paredes and Georginio Wijnaldum on the night.
Idrissa Gana Gueye (CM) - Another surprisingly phenomenal performer in the early stages of the campaign, Gueye has registered two strikes in three Ligue 1 appearances as well as being a hoover to the opposition counter. Crucial.
3. Forwards
Angel Di Maria (RW) - Was absent from his side's trip to Brugge through suspension but should come back into the fold to help fill in for Mbappe's absence.
Lionel Messi (CF) - Won't be a traditional striker but will likely replace Mbappe to lead the line. Messi will be hoping to net his first PSG goal on his full Ligue 1 debut as Lyon visit.
Neymar (LW) - Not quite as bright and threatening as usual in midweek, but Neymar will be keener than anyone to get the chemistry between him and Messi flowing and register his first goal contribution of the campaign sooner rather than later.
