PSG predicted lineup vs Metz - Ligue 1
- PSG play their final game of 2023 against Metz on Wednesday
- French giants will end the year at the top of Ligue 1
- Luis Enrique should revert to type after experimenting with starting lineup against Lille
Luis Enrique has certainly been a tinkerer at the start of his Paris Saint-Germain tenure, but Les Parisiens have often had more success when the Spaniard has drifted away from experimentation.
The PSG boss admitted he wanted to try something different on Sunday as his side dropped two points at the death to Lille. Enrique once again deployed wing-backs and utilised Warren Zaire-Emery out wide instead of Achraf Hakimi.
The result was a fairly drab but nonetheless controlled performance which could've easily resulted in a huge away win.
Nevertheless, Enrique will be expected to revert to type when PSG host Metz in their final Ligue 1 game of the year on Wednesday night.
PSG predicted lineup vs Metz (4-3-3)
GK: Arnau Tenas - The former Barcelona shot-stopper will have one more chance to impress as Gianluigi Donnarumma serves the final game of his suspension.
RB: Achraf Hakimi - The Moroccan dynamo earned a rest at the weekend but he'll almost certainly come back into the side on Wednesday.
CB: Milan Skriniar - Like Hakimi, Skriniar dropped out of the side on Sunday and earned minutes off the bench. The Slovakian defender will make his way back into the lineup.
CB: Marquinhos - The PSG stalwart will remain in Enrique's XI as PSG round off their calendar year on Wednesday night.
LB: Lucas Hernandez - The versatile defender won PSG's penalty on Sunday with an attacking foray and is perhaps growing into an underrated performer in the French capital.
CM: Manuel Ugarte - Doubts remain over whether Ugarte can excel at the very highest level, but the midfielder should have no issues stabilising PSG's midfield against a passive Metz outfit.
CM: Vitinha - The Portuguese star has been one of the club's star performers this season. Enrique should opt against using him in a holding midfield position, however.
CM: Warren Zaire-Emery - After Enrique's experiment resulted in the teenager struggling at wing-back on Sunday, Zaire-Emery will surely drift back into a box-to-box midfield role where he's excelled.
RW: Ousmane Dembele - Only Hakimi and Mbappe have notched more Ligue 1 goal contributions for PSG than Dembele (six) this season. The Frenchman hasn't set the world alight in Paris, but at least he's stayed fit.
ST: Randal Kolo Muani - Goncalo Ramos should return to the matchday squad after dealing with an illness, but the raw Kolo Muani should get the nod on Wednesday. The striker has four league goals to his name.
LW: Kylian Mbappe - The inevitable superstar was perfect from the spot again on Sunday as he scored his 16th Ligue 1 goal of the campaign. The Frenchman is on his way to enjoying an incredibly prolific season in Enrique's debut season.
