PSG Support Neymar Following Racism Allegation - Ligue 1 to Launch Investigation

PSG have come out in support of star player Neymar after he was a victim of alleged racism abuse during his side's 1-0 defeat to Marseille on Sunday evening. Ligue 1 is poised to launch a full investigation into the incident.

Neymar was one of five players sent off in second-half injury time after a mass brawl broke out between the two sets of players. The PSG forward saw red for striking Alvaro Gonzalez on the back of the head, and immediately spoke to the fourth official to accuse the Marseille defender of racially abusing him.

The Brazilian could be heard saying 'no racism, no racism' as he departed the pitch, and later took to Twitter to make his allegations public, stating his 'only regret' was not hitting Gonzalez in the face.

In response to the allegations, PSG released a statement on their official club website which read: "Paris Saint-Germain strongly support Neymar Jr who told [the club] he had been the victim of racist abuse by an opposing player.

"The Club reminds that there is no place for racism in society, football or our lives and calls on everyone to speak out against all its manifestations all over the world.

"Paris Saint-Germain are counting on the Disciplinary Commission of the LFP to investigate and shed light on these facts. The Club remains at its disposal to collaborate in the progress of the investigations."

According to ESPN, Ligue 1 are to launch a full investigation into the incident. The league's disciplinary committee will meet on Wednesday to assess the report of referee Jerome Brisard.

Neymar took to Twitter to call for action to be taken, writing: "VAR catching my "aggression" is easy ... now I want to see the image of the racist calling me a 'monkey motherf***** ... that I want to see!"

Gonzalez denies the allegations and publicly defended himself on Twitter, writing: "There is no place for racism. Sometimes you have to learn how to lose and accept it on the field."
