Amid all of the drama that you might expect from a Paris Saint-Germain summer transfer window, and then much more on top of that, Luis Enrique's team are about to get their 2023/24 Ligue 1 campaign and title defence underway.

Given the level of excitement people had when PSG first had a front three of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi, it is odd that they could spend this season with none of them.

Only Messi has actually gone, but both Mbappe and Neymar are looking for a way out and this Lorient game will tell us a lot about how Enrique plans to deal with that situation. Luckily for him, some talented attacking players have been signed so he is not without other options.

Here is all you need to know about PSG's opening clash in Ligue 1.

PSG team news

One thing is for sure; Kylian Mbappe will not be featuring for PSG in this game. That has already been made clear as he is locked in a contract dispute with the club and wants to join Real Madrid a year earlier than everyone expected.

Neymar has told the club that he wants to leave so he is also expected to play no part, as Enrique focuses on the players that actually do want to play for PSG. Nuno Mendes, Nordi Mukiele and Sergio Rico are all out injured and Layvin Kurzawa is a doubt.

There are plenty of new players that could get minutes, such as Manuel Ugarte, Milan Skriniar, Marco Asensio, Goncalo Ramos and Lucas Hernandez.

Lorient team news

PSG are always busy in the transfer market but Lorient have been doing a few deals of their own. The most notable deal saw Benjamin Mendy arrive after he was found not guilty of rape and attempted rape charges against him in England. He is not expected to start this match, though, as he seeks to get back to full fitness.

They will be without Quentin Boisgard thanks to an injury, whilst Loris Mouyokolo will also be absent due to an Achilles issue.

PSG vs Lorient score prediction

There is certainly fair reason to wonder if PSG are going to struggle in the early stages of the season. Losing (at least for this game) Messi, Neymar and Mbappe is quite a remarkable amount of firepower to take away from a team.

That being said, they still have an incredible squad of talented players and Enrique is making the right choice by giving the likes of Asensio and Lee Kang-in minutes as they are the players he will actually be working with all season. It might not be a battering, but they should be fine at home to Lorient.

Prediction: PSG 3-1 Lorient
