Rangers 1-2 Tottenham: Player ratings as Kane double wins friendly
A double from Harry Kane saw Tottenham come from behind to beat Rangers 2-1 at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon.
New Gers signing Antonio Colak had given the hosts the lead by firing in from close range, but Kane brilliantly whipped into the top corner to equalise in the second half before netting the winner with a half-volley.
The two sides were participating in the Walter Tull Memorial Cup to commemorate the former half-back who played for Tottenham and Rangers in the 1910s.
A fast-paced start saw Dejan Kulusevski go close first, drawing a save from Allan McGregor after the Swede had burst clear of Rangers' defensive line.
Gers remained composed and saw plenty of the ball, eventually taking the lead when a sharp move saw Rabbi Matondo beat Ryan Sessegnon and cross low via a James Tavernier flick for Colak, who smashed past Hugo Lloris from close range.
Spurs continued to find space in attack as Kulusevski was again denied by McGregor, with the resulting set-piece nodded just over by Cristian Romero.
Rangers had a few speculative efforts from distance rebuffed by Lloris, with a Tavernier free kick drifting over and Tom Lawrence firing off target.
A lovely move saw Son Heung-min play Kane in on goal, but again McGregor stood tall to block the England captain's strike.
Spurs started the second half sharply and found the equaliser after Sessegnon had seen an opening batted away by McGregor. Son charged up the pitch and fed Kane, who was given too much time by Connor Goldson to shift the ball to his right foot and fire into the top corner.
Tottenham took the lead shortly after Kulusevski was booked for diving as they won the ball high up the pitch and Son again found Kane, who lashed in at the near post.
Changes were made as fresh faces came on, with Malik Tillman and James Sands getting some minutes for the home side and new signings Ivan Perisic, Clement Lenglet, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Clement Lenglet and Djed Spence all featuring for Spurs off the bench.
Rangers pressed for an equaliser as Spurs rang the changes, with substitute James Sands nodding straight at Forster from close in from a set piece.
Despite the loss, Rangers looked in good nick ahead of their Scottish Premiership opener against Livingston next Saturday before the Champions League qualifiers against Union SG. Spurs, meanwhile, will soon fly out to Israel to face Roma in their final pre-season friendly.
