By Sean Walsh
Raphael Varane has opened up on his elation that former Real Madrid teammate Casemiro has joined Manchester United.
The Brazilian defensive midfielder completed his move to the Red Devils on Monday and was unveiled to a packed Old Trafford crowd prior to their 2-1 win over rivals Liverpool.
Varane and Casemiro were part of a formidable defensive unit that helped Real Madrid win four Champions Leagues in the 2010s, with the latter then also going on to win his fifth with Los Blancos last season.
Speaking after Monday's victory against Liverpool, Varane, who joined United from Real in 2021, revealed he is delighted to be linking up with Casemiro again.
"Yeah, [I am] very excited. I know perfectly his quality. He can bring this balance to the team and his mentality. He's a warrior, so I think he will really enjoy English football. I know him!" Varane said.
"I think it was a perfect night for him to meet Old Trafford because the atmosphere was absolutely amazing, and he brings a victory so it’s nice!
