Raul Jimenez took to Instagram to thank Wolves' supporters for the banner that was displayed during their 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa, as the striker continues his recovery from a fractured skull.

The Mexican was rushed to hospital after a horrific clash of heads with David Luiz overshadowed Wolves' victory over Arsenal last month. He has vowed to 'be back soon' but is expected to be out of action for the foreseeable future, with manager Nuno Espirito Santo urging caution over his condition.

Jimenez is a favourite at Wolves having played a huge part in establishing them as a top flight club over the past two and a half seasons, and fans came together to commission a huge banner in tribute to the front man that was displayed during Saturday's West Midlands Derby. The banner reads: "Fuerza [Strength] Raul. The strength of the Wolf is in the pack."

It evidently struck a chord with the 29-year-old who soon took to Instagram to acknowledge the show of support and thank the fans involved.

"Amazing! I am very grateful to all the people who have been supporting me during this process," the post reads.

"To my fans, to my teammates, to all who have sent their love, it means everything to me and my family. Thank you very much!"

Jimenez's manager Santo expressed his confidence that Jimenez will eventually make a full recovery and return to playing - but only when he is ready.

“Raul is recovering and our real concern is that he totally recovers. He will have time and it will all depend on the player and how he feels," Santo said. “The first days were so important, next he will go back home and then we will see. We are not allowed to visit him, what Raul needs is the company and love of his family. He needs to deal with this situation with his loved ones.

“But if you ask me personally, and I put aside my wish and my desire, I am positive he is going to come back.

“It was very serious and everyone was afraid, everyone was worried. Everyone on the pitch was affected but now we have to stick together.”
