Real Madrid are reported to have asked Alphonso Davies not to sign a new contract with Bayern Munich in their efforts to recruit the star left-back.

Davies, who has now entered the final 18 months of his current Bayern deal, has been on Madrid's transfer radar for some time and an expiring contract leaves the German champions vulnerable.

The latest from Sky Sport Germany is that regular contact between Madrid and Davies' agent continues and the player's camp have been asked not to pen fresh terms in Munich that would remove the threat of free agency and likely see his market value skyrocket.

A new contract beyond 2025 doesn't appear to be any closer amid stalled negotiations, though.

90min explained back in early November that Bayern fear a Madrid approach for Davies, who has been identified as the top target to strengthen the left side of the pitch.

Madrid have lacked a consistent left-back since Marcelo's career at the Bernabeu began to wind down after 2018 – he stayed another four years but played fewer games – and Davies is considered one of the best in the world in that role. Ferland Mendy's injury struggles have lessened his long-term suitability, while €5m signing Fran Garcia has more of a squad player profile.

Davies has been willing to engage in contract talks with Bayern, but the Canada international is seeking a salary befitting his world class status and such demands are yet to be met. His current terms were agreed back in early 2020, when he was still only 19 and had played relatively few times.

Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City have all shown interest in Davies as well, but 90min understands that the Premier League trio are sceptical about their chances of being able to agree a deal in the belief that his overarching desire is to join Real Madrid.

Davies initially made his name as a teenage prodigy at Vancouver Whitecaps in MLS, linking up with Bayern in January 2019 after a transfer was agreed several months earlier and going on to become a first-team regular the following season.
