Real Madrid right-back Lucas Vazquez has confirmed progress has been made in talks over a new contract with the La Liga champions.
Madrid have several key players approaching the final month of their contracts, with decisions needed on Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Nacho Fernandez, as well as loanees Kepa Arrizabalaga and Joselu.
Nacho is expected to leave - reports suggest he has turned down the chance to move to Major League Soccer - but Vazquez has revealed he is in talks over an extension.
"I would love to stay," Vazquez told The Athletic. "Negotiations over my renewal are going well."
Vazquez's interview was soon interrupted by a roar of 'Cafucas' from Jude Bellingham, comparing the 32-year-old to legendary Brazilian Cafu.
While work on Vazquez's new deal is not yet finished, the versatile 32-year-old appears set to extend his stay at Madrid for at least another year, which would take his tenure up to a decade since he returned from Espanyol in 2015.
Work is also ongoing behind the scenes to resolve the futures of both Modric and Kroos.
MARCA state that president Florentino Perez has personally involved himself in negotiations to ensure the pair remain with Madrid, and Modric is said to have already agreed another 12-month extension.
Kroos has been offered a new one-year deal of his own and, while he is not yet believed to have shaken hands, an extension is close to being finalised to keep the German at the Santiago Bernabeu beyond this summer.
