Robert Lewandowski ruled out for four weeks with knee injury
Robert Lewandowski has been ruled out for around four weeks after straining ligaments in his knee, meaning he will miss both legs of Bayern Munich's Champions League quarter final against Paris-Saint Germain.
The best striker in the world picked up the injury while on international duty with Poland. After netting two of his side's goals in a 3-0 win over Andorra, Lewandowski was forced off on the hour mark following a collision.
After the game he flew back to Germany prematurely, meaning he will be absent for Poland's final World Cup qualifying game of the international break against England. Scans by Bayern's medical team have since revealed that Lewandowski will also miss Die Roten's upcoming European clash against PSG.
Bayern announced the news via a statement on their website, which read: "Robert Lewandowski has strained a ligament in his right knee. The Bayern striker will be out for around four weeks. After Poland's 3-0 win over Andorra, Lewandowski returned early to Munich, where a diagnosis was made by the German record champions' medical team."
The news comes as a significant blow to Bayern's chances of retaining the Champions League trophy. Lewandowski has been in superhuman form over the past few years and it has been no different this season. The Pole has already scored 42 goals in 36 games this term and last season he managed a ridiculous 55 in 47 appearances.
Lewandowski has only missed three fixtures in all competitions during the 2020/21 campaign, so it is not clear how Hansi Flick will set up in his absence. In all of the matches that he did not start, Eric Choupo-Moting - who signed from PSG in the summer - was drafted in, but other options include playing Thomas Muller, Serge Gnabry or Leroy Sane as a central striker.
