Romania 0-1 Germany: Player ratings as Serge Gnabry strike gives Die Mannschaft victory

A first half Serge Gnabry goal was enough to see Germany beat Romania 1-0 in Bucharest on Sunday night, as Die Mannschaft made it two wins from two in Group J of World Cup qualification.

Germany broke the deadlock with 16 minutes on the clock as Kai Havertz beat the offside trap before squaring for Gnabry to tap into an empty net.

Germany went the closest again just before the hour mark when Gnabry ended a long solo run by forcing a good save in the bottom corner by Florin Nita.

Romania threatened in the latter stages, finding themselves in one on one situations twice in the final five minutes, but Die Mannschaft held on and eventually ran out 1-0 winners to make it six points from their first two matches in Group J. Now, let's take a look at how the Germans rated...

Germany player ratings

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Manuel Neuer (GK) - 6/10 - Provided us with a couple of exciting 'sweeper keeper' moments but was rarely troubled throughout, facing just two shots on target.

Lukas Klostermann (RB) - 9/10 - A sensational performance, not putting a foot wrong. Added to Germany's attack with one key pass as well as making eight ball recoveries and three clearances to shut the door on Romania time after time.

Matthias Ginter (CB) - 6/10 - Got caught out a couple of times when Claudiu Keseru found himself on the defender's blind side but generally kept a lid on things and looked solid.

Antonio Rudiger (CB) - 8/10 - A very strong and composed performance at the heart of defence and played some brilliant diagonals over the top, notably a perfect pass to set Havertz away in the build up to the opener.

Emre Can (LB) - 7/10 - Had very little defensive work to do but made an impact going forward, showing a willingness to beat his man on the outside to create opportunities and even took a couple of promising efforts on goal himself.

2. Midfielders

Leon Goretzka (CM) - 7/10 - Showed great tenacity and hunger throughout, always pressing to win the ball back high up the field. Also made excellent darting runs into the box, constantly making a nuisance of himself in dangerous areas.

Joshua Kimmich (CM) - 7/10 - Perhaps a little hangover from his 10/10 outing on Thursday. Still held the midfield together and distributed play well, but didn't pull the strings as well as he so often does. Unlucky to see a half volley crash against the crossbar in the first half, too.

Ilkay Gundogan (CM) - 7/10 - Roamed around the field freely, linking with teammates all over the place and making five ball recoveries when tracking back, as well as one key pass.

3. Forwards

Kai Havertz (RW) - 8/10 - Looked dangerous and full of confidence whenever he got on the ball, constantly driving at his opposition and making things happen. Did well to evade the offside trap and assist the first goal.

Serge Gnabry (ST) - 9/10 - Once again floated around to find space and did it to great effect. Always looked creative when moving deep, linking up with teammates well and notching three key passes, while grabbing the opener to continue his astonishing strike rate for Die Mannschaft.

Leroy Sane (LW) - 6/10 - Showed quick feet and threatened throughout but couldn't quite find his usual spark when he arrived into the final third, often losing out to the Romanian back line.

4. Substitutes

Timo Werner (LW) - 5/10 - Will be disappointed not to have his name on the scoresheet, having missed a one on one opportunity minutes after coming on.
