Ryan Gravenberch explains roles of Jurgen Klopp and Virgil van Dijk in Liverpool transfer

Ryan Gravenberch has opened up on the conversations he had with manager Jurgen Klopp and Netherlands teammate Virgil van Dijk prior to his move to Liverpool.

The midfielder completed a £34.2m move to Anfield from Bayern Munich on transfer deadline day having been monitored by the Reds for much of the summer.

He was Liverpool's fourth midfield signing of the window, following on from Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo.

Though he is yet to start a Premier League game, Gravenberch has registered a goal contribution in each of his three appearances in the Europa League and Carabao Cup.

In a Reddit AMA on Sky Sports, Gravenberch was asked about the talks he held with Klopp ahead of his summer switch to Liverpool.

"I spoke with the coach and he gave me a good feeling. He said to me, 'I want you', he gave me his plans and explained to me everything. He gave me such a good feeling, my decision was a fast one," he said.

Gravenberch was also asked about the chin-rub that Klopp gave him prior to coming on as a substitute in last month's win at home to West Ham United.

"I saw it went viral!" Gravenberch laughed. "He did it but Curtis [Jones] came to the side and I was laughing to Curtis.

"If you saw the video he did this and then I laughed about that but I was laughing to Curtis, that's why."

Gravenberch is now the third Dutchman on Liverpool's books, joining compatriots Van Dijk and Cody Gakpo on Merseyside.

Detailing discussions with Van Dijk, Gravenberch added: "I spoke a little bit with Virg and he said 'Liverpool are a top club. You're going to play for sure'.

"He said things to me and also that gave me a good feeling to come here."
