Sam Kerr reveals desire to sign new Chelsea contract
Chelsea striker Sam Kerr has stated her desire to sign a new contract with the club that would extend her stay with the Blues beyond the end of her current deal in 2024.
Kerr, who signed her most recent contract extension towards the end of 2021, joined Chelsea in January 2020 and has won WSL titles in each of her three seasons to date.
The Australian had previously played on a dual deal with Perth Glory and Chicago Red Stars and initially took a little time to find her feet in England. But she soon established herself as one of the best, not only in the WSL, but in the world.
To date, Kerr has scored 82 goals in 100 Chelsea appearances across all competitions, reaching her century of games in the recent WSL top of the table clash with Manchester United. Fittingly, she netted the only goal of the game with a sumptuous lobbed finish.
“Hopefully I stay here as long as I can and hopefully there's a lot more goals, and a lot more games, and we go from there,” Kerr told BBC Radio London.
“I have a special relationship with Emma [Hayes], she gets the best out of me as you can tell in the last two years - if you're listening, Emma, sign me up.”
Speaking after the win over United, Hayes said of Kerr, “She is the best in the business, and it's not just 82 goals in 100 games, it is the mentality, the spirit shown in challenging circumstances.”
