- Sounders unveil new badge and branding
- New badge to feature year in which the club was founded
- New badge also includes elements found in current crest
Seattle Sounders have unveiled a new badge and branding ahead of their landmark 2024 season, celebrating 50 years of existence.
The Sounders started out in 1974 and originally competed in the North American Soccer League (NASL), but fast forward 35 years later and the club became MLS' newest side. The current badge is set to stay on the Sounders' jersey through the 2023 regular season and playoffs, and the fresh look will officially be on the shirts of Seattle supporters at the start of the 2024 campaign.
The new look for Seattle, which includes an element from the current badge - the Seattle Space Needle - is front and center alongside the year that the club was founded.
Seattle itself has called this new era a 'brand evolution' that included lots of feedback and dialogue with their supporters.
"The new visual identity comes following dedicated development and comprehensive engagement with fans, supporters, community members and other club stakeholders and is designed to truly embrace the rich history and heritage of the Sounders name, more fully encompassing and celebrating every era of the club while positioning it to move boldly into the future," the club said in a press release.
"Today marks the culmination of much careful, contemplative and thorough work, and it is incredibly rewarding to now introduce Sounders FC’s brand evolution. It was a dream achieved to bring the Sounders to Major League Soccer in 2009, but, like many of our fans, my love for the club started long before its MLS era," added Seattle majority owner Adrian Hanaue.
"As Sounders, our past runs deep and proud, and that’s why we’re especially pleased to introduce this new visual identity, which isn’t so much a change as it is an evolution that more faithfully encompasses the entirety of the club."
After missing out on the postseason in 2022, Seattle has rebounded this year and look probable to qualify for the playoffs as they look ahead to a highly-anticipated 2024 season - and beyond.
