Sevilla vs Inter: Picking a Combined XI From the 2019/20 Europa League Finalists

Sevilla face Inter in their quest for a record sixth Europa League title, having seen off Manchester United in the semi-final.

Inter may seem the stronger team on paper and have enjoyed a successful domestic season, narrowly missing out on the Serie A title by a single point, but Sevilla remain the favourites having won the competition three times in a row between 2014 and 2016.

There isn't much separating the two sides heading into what promises to be a closely contested final. Here's 90min's combined XI of players who are eligible for Friday's clash...

GK - Yassine Bounou

Sevilla's cup keeper has kept the second-most clean sheets in the tournament thus far (six) and can finish joint top with Sergio Romero if the Spaniards avoid conceding in the final.

'Bono' has been solid throughout the tournament and put in a heroic display against United in the semi-final, making seven saves to nullify the Red Devils' attacking efforts. It was his performance that allowed them to nick the winner, so he makes the cut ahead of the admittedly very fine Samir Handanovic here.

RB - Danilo D'Ambrosio

31-year-old D'Ambrosio grabbed a goal in Inter's 5-0 thrashing of Shakhtar Donetsk in the semi-final and has been a reliable pair of feet on the right flank all season.

He's no spring chicken, but experience carries a team through big games. While Jesus Navas looked solid for Sevilla in a similar role to that of D'Ambrosio's at Inter, the Italian has a more assured quality in both attack and defence.

Capable as operating as a right back, right midfielder or even a centre back, it's hard to look past his versatility. He'd make the perfect attacking full back and allow for a shift to wing backs if needed, making him the ideal candidate.

CB - Jules Koundé

Along with his centre-back partner Diego Carlos, young Frenchman Koundé is quickly becoming the name on everyone's lips after an impressive season in Spain with Sevilla.

He's made 39 appearances in all competitions this term and chipped in with two goals and an assist. He looked a little green at times against United in the semi-final, but at 21, it's to be expected. Playing in a final would be a huge learning experience and would allow him the chance to impress on the big stage.

It might be a gamble including him over an experienced head, but he's earned the chance to prove his worth throughout the season.

CB - Stefan de Vrij

On paper, the experience of Diego Godin might seem vital in a combined XI, but he simply hasn't done enough to get in over both Koundé and his Inter teammate Stefan de Vrij.

The Dutchman is comfortably one of the first names on the teamsheet for Antonio Conte at Inter, consistently operating at a high level throughout the 2019/20 season. His strong passing allows his side to work out from the back, while his impressive reading of the game also keeps him sharp off the ball.

LB - Sergio Reguilón

Sevilla have struck gold with their Real Madrid loanee this season, who has proven to be a very capable player at the top level.

23-year-old Reguilón has enjoyed a stellar season in Seville and stood out with a strong showing against United in the semi-final. His attacking intent is everything a club wants in a modern day full back and gave the Red Devils all sorts of trouble in the channels.

He could become an asset for Real Madrid upon his return to the club. Or they could just disregard him and sell him, like they did with Achraf Hakimi...

DM - Marcelo Brozovic

The Croatian midfielder has been another key player to Inter's positive season under Antonio Conte.

A defensive midfielder by trade, Brozovic provides balance in a midfield trio and allows those around him to push forward while starting attacks and sweeping up danger. At 27, he's likely entering his best years as a footballer, thus the Nerazzuri must do all they can to ensure that he stays with the club if they want to continue building on the progress they've made over the last 12 months.

CM - Nicolo Barella

The man who sits next to Brozovic in Italy, Nicolo Barella is getting better with every game he plays.

At just 23, the Italian midfielder has come on leaps and bounds since signing for Inter last summer from Cagliari. Since the turn of the new year especially, Barella has excelled especially since the turn of the new year, and works hard in the Inter midfield to win the ball back and progress play forward with dribbles or a crisp pass.

Romelu Lukaku called him the man of the match in the quarter-final win over Leverkusen.

CM - Éver Banega

A player that perhaps flies under the radar when discussing some of the top midfielders in European football, Éver Banega walks into a combined XI here.

The 32-year-old won the Europa League twice with Sevilla in their incredible three successive tournament wins, before leaving for Inter in 2016. He returned to Seville just 13 months later, however, and has enjoyed a solid season once more under Julen Lopetegui, contributing with three goals and 10 assists in all competitions this season.

He'll leaves the club for a second time following the conclusion of their Europa League final to join Saudi side Al-Shabab, but has a very good chance of bowing out with his third Europa League trophy.

AM - Suso

Suso feels like he's been around in the footballing world forever, when you consider he was playing for Liverpool in 2014. He's still only 26, however, and finally seems to have found his feet after a challenging start to his professional career.

He headed for Seville in January this year on an 18-month loan from Milan, but the Spaniards have an obligation to purchase him permanently. They won't mind that considering the form he's been in since joining, having bagged the equaliser against United that allowed Sevilla to push on and reach the final.

ST - Romelu Lukaku

Lukaku has operated on another level since moving from Manchester to Milan.

Signing for Inter ahead of the 2019/20 season, their investment in the Belgian has paid off as he's fired home 33 goals in all competitions in his debut season with the Nerazzuri. 23 of those came in Serie A which would've been enough to be crowned as top scorer if it wasn't for both Ciro Immobile and Cristiano Ronaldo both striking home over 30 goals each.

Sevilla must do all they can to keep him away from their goal.

ST - Lautaro Martinez

The man supporting Lukaku throughout the season is Lautaro Martinez, who completes the XI, to no surprise.

The Argentine has looked equally as exciting this season, playing as a second striker to the Belgian. He's chipped in with 21 goals and seven assists in all competitions, and could well develop into the most dangerous striker in the world at just 22 years old.

Inter have an extremely hot commodity in their hands.
