Morocco manager Walid Regragui has confirmed Sofyan Amrabat was released from international duty as a precaution after complaining of an injury scare.

Amrabat joined Manchester United on loan from Fiorentina this summer but saw a back injury flagged during his medical, although that did not stop him from linking up with Morocco during the current international break.

After being spotted in training, however, Amrabat withdrew from the squad earlier this week, with United confirming he will return to Carrington for further checks on his condition.

Just what happened to Amrabat is unclear but manager Regragui has now confirmed his withdrawal was more of a precaution than anything else.

"Sofyan Amrabat felt something," he said. "We let him go as a precaution because he has just started his new adventure with Manchester United."

Amrabat has been registered in United's squad and is now eligible to make his debut when Brighton & Hove Albion visit Old Trafford on 16 September, but it remains to be seen whether he will be fit enough to feature.

The midfielder is keen to get back to work under Erik ten Hag, who handed him 50 appearances for Utrecht earlier in both mens' careers.

"We had a fantastic time, a really good season. I learned a lot from him," Amrabat told club media. "So maybe he's one of the most important people in my career for now."

He added: "It's fantastic because I think Erik ten Hag is a coach who will push always to the limit. He's hungry. He wants to win. He's a winner and I like that. I think I'm also similar, I'm also a winner. I want to win every day so it's a good match."
