Southampton vs Newcastle Preview: How to Watch on TV, Live Stream, Kick Off Time & Team News
By Vayam Lahoti
The Premier League returns to St Mary's on Friday as Southampton host Newcastle with both sides looking to build on their decent form.
A James Ward-Prowse-inspired Saints edged Aston Villa in a seven-goal thriller last time out while their upcoming visitors condemned high-flying Everton to their second defeat in the league this season. Southampton currently sit in fifth place, while the Magpies are top of the bottom half of the table in 11th.
Not even a second national lockdown can dampen the spirits of the Southampton faithful at the moment, with the Saints boasting four wins from their last five league outings - form no other side can match.
The Magpies have turned a corner after a mixed start to the season, with Callum Wilson leading from the front. Their 2-1 victory over Everton came a week after they'd shown their resilience at Molineux, holding Wolves to a 1-1 draw.
As Southampton hope to finish a day on top of the Premier League standings for the first time ever with a win, here's everything you need to know about this one.

Team News
Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has confirmed Danny Ings will remain on the sidelines for around six weeks. He further revealed Jan Bednarek, Ryan Bertrand and Ibrahima Diallo are all doubts for the clash and that Mohammed Salisu may not be ready to make his debut yet.
Steve Bruce's side aren't facing any fresh injury concerns off the back of the victory over Everton but the quartet of Jonjo Shelvey, Martin Dubravka, Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle remain out of action.
Predicted Lineups
Southampton: McCarthy; Walker-Peters, Vestergaard, Stephens, Bertrand; Redmond, Ward-Prowse, Romeu, Armstrong; Walcott, Adams.
Newcastle: Darlow; Lascelles, Schar, Fernandez; Murphy, Hayden, Hendrick, Lewis; Saint-Maximin, Wilson, Fraser.
Recent Form
Southampton have made quite the turnaround after an indifferent start to the season. Off the back of a 1-0 defeat at Selhurst Park and a 5-2 drubbing at the hands of Tottenham, they've picked up 13 points from a possible 15 since. They've improved their defensive record of late, too.
Newcastle had an inconsistent start to the new campaign but recent showings against Wolves and Everton would've done the world of good to the confidence in the dressing room. They'll be looking to put in a consistent run of performances in and finally get their season up and running.
Here's how both sides have fared in their last five games in all competitions.
Southampton
Aston Villa 3-4 Southampton (1/11)
Southampton 2-0 Everton (25/10)
Chelsea 3-3 Southampton (17/10)
Southampton 2-0 West Brom (4/10)
Burnley 0-1 Southampton (26/9)
Newcastle
Newcastle 2-1 Everton (1/11)
Wolves 1-1 Newcastle (25/10)
Newcastle 1-4 Manchester United (17/10)
Newcastle 3-1 Burnley (3/10)
Newport County 1 (4) - (5) 1 Newcastle (30/9)
Prediction
Southampton are on a roll but without prolific talisman Ings, their goal-threat will be significantly reduced.
Newcastle, on the other hand, have reincarnated an attacking partnership between the former Bournemouth duo of Wilson and Ryan Fraser.
All things said, the strength in-depth the home side possess will play in their favour and a win for the Saints is not a bold prediction, given their form of late.
Prediction: Southampton 2-1 Newcastle
