Expansion club St. Louis CITY SC have completed the signing of winger Indiana Vassilev from Aston Villa.

Vassilev arrives on a two-year contract through the 2024 MLS season, with the club holding options on 2025 and 2026.

St. Louis acquired Vassilev's rights back in November via the Expansion Draft having been able to see his progress in MLS over the past two seasons on loan at Inter Miami, where he hit five goals and two primary assists in 48 appearances across all competitions.

"We were ecstatic to push Indy’s deal over the line to bring him to St. Louis," sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel said in a club press release.

"Indy is a highly coveted American youth international, who shows a lot of dynamic attributes in the midfield. His experience at the various levels of the Premier League, MLS, and US youth national team is impressive for his age."

Prior to his time in MLS, Vassilev played six times for the Aston Villa first team, while also scoring 13 goals and assisting another seven in just under 60 appearances for the club's development teams.

The 21-year-old - who is capped extensively for the United States across various youth levels - has also enjoyed time on loan at fellow English clubs Cheltenham Town and Burton Albion.

St. Louis' roster continues to grow ahead of their first-ever competitive match away at Austin FC on February 25, while they open CITYPARK against 2022 expansion side Charlotte FC on March 4.
