The 2023 Premier League table
- The 2023 Premier League table consisting of all 23 teams
- Manchester City were unsurprisingly impressive across the calendar year
- Chelsea have been particularly underwhelming over the past 12 months
As 2023 draws to a close, it's time to reflect on another year of Premier League football.
It's been a typically hectic year in the English top flight with a flurry of fixtures, goals and drama across two seasons, the 'best league in the world' rarely failing to live up to its tag.
Manchester City were the side that came out on top come the end of the 2022/23 campaign in May, while Arsenal are the current table-toppers this season, but what would the Premier League look like if results were taken from across the calendar year?
Here is the 2023 Premier League table.

Regardless of which way you spin it, Man City are undoubtedly the best team in England. The reigning Premier League champions also top the 2023 table, rather emphatically, sitting on 93 points from 41 games. Pep Guardiola's treble-winners have endured just six defeats across the year, boasting a +57 goal difference.
However, the success story of the year is undeniably Aston Villa and their impressive resurgence under Unai Emery, the Midlands club second in the rankings. With 85 points from 42 games, the Spanish coach has revolutionised the club and the Villans now find themselves in the midst of the 2023/24 title race.
Arsenal and Liverpool make up the rest of the top four, the Gunners fourth in the table despite their outstanding performances across the last two seasons. The Reds have managed to make up for a disappointing 2022/23 at the beginning of the new campaign, Jurgen Klopp's side galvanised by their midfield summer signings.
Despite a disappointing opening half of the current season and only the ninth best goal difference in 2023, Manchester United have pipped Newcastle United to fifth spot, while Brighton's stellar form under Roberto De Zerbi sees them take seventh.
We have to look way down to 13th to spot Chelsea. The Blues have endured a torrid 2023 and, despite having spent a gazillion pounds on signings and having played more games than any other team this year, the west London side have picked up fewer points than the likes of Brentford and Fulham.
Of all the ever-present sides in the division during 2023, Crystal Palace have been the worst performers. Roy Hodgson's side have accumulated just 44 points, winning just ten times.
Unsurprisingly, the three newly-promoted teams this season and the three sides that were relegated last term sit at the bottom of the standings. However, it's Sheffield United that have performed the worst, albeit they have played fewer games than Southampton, Leicester City and Leeds United. The Blades have by far the worst goal difference too, sitting on -34 largely thanks to their 8-0 humbling at the hands of Newcastle.
