A fixture ticker is a fantasy manager's best friend, with an outlook of six gameweeks being considered a good timeframe to consider for an upcoming period of games.

Which teams have the best fixtures for the opening six gameweeks?

Wolves sit top of the fixture for the first six gameweeks, closely followed by last season's top two: Liverpool and Manchester City. We could see fantasy managers scrambling to triple up on these two sides, but having a good overall squad balance shouldn’t be dismissed.

Wolves face two promoted sides in their first six games: Fulham and Bournemouth. They also match-up against bottom half sides Leeds United and Southampton, while having two trickier fixtures against Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United in Gameweek 3 and 4. 

Wolves defence has a higher rank than their attack, meaning picking up a defensive asset should be the greater priority for Gameweek 1. We recommend Jonny (£4.5m) who plays in an attacking wing-back role, with versatility to play on either flank. 

Manchester City and Liverpool both avoid last season's top four in their early period of the season and face two promoted sides in their first six: Liverpool play Fulham in Gameweek 1 and Bournemouth in Gameweek 4, with Manchester City facing Bournemouth in Gameweek 2 and Nottingham Forest in Gameweek 5. 

Their most favourable fixtures dovetail quite nicely so picking a premium attacker from each side could allow you a good run of captain picks in the early weeks of the season. Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) and Erling Haaland (£11.5m) look to be the popular front-runners and are likely to be among the most-owned players for Gameweek 1. 

Manchester City have the edge in the attack fixture ticker, taking the top spot. Going without one of their key attackers would be a risk strategy for Gameweek 1, with Kevin De Bruyne (£12.0m) also a worthy inclusion with 23 goal involvements last campaign. 

When it comes to the defence ticker it’s Liverpool who take top spot. Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) and Andrew Robertson (£7.0m) were ranked joint top for goal involvements by defenders last season, with 14 apiece. Either one could play a key role in any Gameweek 1 squad and doubling up will be a popular strategy, given Liverpool kept 21 clean sheets last season and neither play has increased in price for this season.

Brentford, Spurs, Brighton, Arsenal and Chelsea make up the top places in the overall fixture ticker, with not much to separate them. It’s rare to see all the top teams from the previous campaign having such a favourable start to the season, but it does make life simpler for fantasy managers. 

Spurs come in third for attack difficulty: only Manchester City have scored more goals than them this calendar year in the Premier League. Squeezing three premium attackers into our Gameweek 1 squads will be a tall order, but Heung-Min Son (£12.0m) and Harry Kane (£11.5m) are the top two fantasy performers of 2022 so far, with 15 and 13 goals respectively. 

The business that they have conducted in the transfer market to date will make them a formidable force in 2022/23.

When it comes to the defence rankings, it’s Chelsea who take third place, having kept a total of 16 clean sheets last season. Reece James (£6.0m) is among their best defensive assets, matching the Liverpool full-backs on 14 goal involvements last season, despite playing significantly fewer minutes. 

Ben Chilwell (£6.0m) was the top points per 90 performer of 21/22 and could be a dangerous acquisition if he returns to his best following an ACL injury. Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy (£5.0m) could be a gem, having season a significant price drop ahead of this campaign.

Arsenal and Brighton have the longest spells of opening fixtures without facing last season's top four, meaning we can view any of their players in our Gameweek 1 squads as long-term holds. Attack ranks higher than defence for Arsenal, with Bukayo Saka (£8.0m) the star man of last campaign. New signing Gabriel Jesus (£8.0m) and youngster Gabriel Martinelli (£6.0m) may also provide significant contributions over the early weeks of the season. 

For Brighton, defensive assets may be viewed as the priority, since they sit fourth in the defence ticker and have a number of kindly priced assets in their squad. Looking at Brentford, Ivan Toney (£7.0m) and David Raya (£4.5m) were among their star players in their debut Premier League season and will be popular options for our Gameweek 1 squads.
