The best goals of MLS matchday 7 - ranked
By Alex Windley
There were some phenomenal goals scored in week seven of Major League Soccer.
LAFC’s Denis Bouanga did some damage against Austin FC, Hector Herrera showed the league the class is permanent during the Houston Dynamo’s win over the LA Galaxy, and 21-year-old Joshua Atencio of the Seattle Sounders demonstrated that it’s always good to play the youth.
Here's all the action you might've missed from the latest round in MLS...
5. Hector Herrera (vs. LA Galaxy)
Hector Herrera is showing how valuable of a player he is for the Houston Dynamo.
Against the LA Galaxy, Herrera slotted in a wicked right-footed shot to the bottom right corner that saw Houston take a 1-0 lead.
The Mexican international is rolling back the years with his performances for the Dynamo, this goal is proof that the 32-year-old still has what it takes to play at a high level in MLS.
4. Pablo Ruiz (vs. Charlotte FC)
Take a bow, Pablo Ruiz!
When Real Salt Lake was desperate for an equalizer against Charlotte FC, the 24-year-old central midfielder stepped up in the 56th minute, thumping in a crazy left-footed shot outside of the box that stuck itself in the top right corner.
Ruiz’s goal would go on to motivate RSL to a 3-1 win.
3. Dylan Borrero (vs. CF Montreal)
Dylan’s Borrero is making his name known in MLS.
The 21-year-old scored a wonder strike in the 21st minute to give the New England Revolution the early lead over CF Montreal.
His outside-of-the-box, right-footed shot to the top corner threw Montreal goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois for a loop. Though it’s only third on the list, the degree of difficulty is unmatched and deserves applause.
2. Joshua Atencio (vs. St. Louis CITY)
Good things happen when you play the youth!
The Seattle Sounders got a glimpse of that during their 3-0 win over St. Louis with a Joshua Atencio strike in the 66th minute.
Atencio was largely unmarked as he powered in a right-footed shot to the top corner of the goal to break the deadlock with St. Louis.
St. Louis goalkeeper Roman Burki could do nothing about it as it sailed past him.
Atencio’s strike is more than worthy enough to be number two on this list.
1. Denis Bouanga (vs. Austin FC)
Who else but Denis Bouanga could top the list this week?
The 28-year-old is in electric form for LAFC and he has shown no signs of slowing down.
His 57th-minute strike during LA’s 3-0 win over Austin FC was a thing of beauty.
Not only did Bouanga take it on the volley, but it was largely untouched as it hit the back of the net. It was struck with such venom that Austin’s goalkeeper Brad Stuver didn’t dare try to dive after it.
Bouanga’s three-goal performance sees him climb to second in the MLS Golden Boot race, just two behind leader Jordan Morris.
