The Manchester City lineup that should start against Paris Saint-Germain
By Mitch Wilks
Manchester City are potentially just 90 minutes away from a first ever Champions League final in the history of the football club.
A 2-1 victory away at Paris Saint-Germain was the result fans were dreaming about before the first leg, but one they didn't see coming after the opening 45 minutes. Pep Guardiola's side overturned a 1-0 scoreline after the break, playing Les Parisiens off the park in an incredible half of football.
PSG will be geared up for vengeance in the second leg, but City are well armed and now well cushioned to deal with their advances thanks to their two away goals.
Here's how City should set up to ensure history is made.
1. Goalkeeper & defenders
Ederson (GK) - The loose cannon Brazilian is a bit wild, but is seriously assured in his approach as one of the most progressive and confident goalkeepers in world football.
Kyle Walker (RB) - Kept Kylian Mbappe as quiet as a mouse in the first leg of the tie and will need a similar performance.
John Stones (CB) - With Stones still serving domestic suspension, the Englishman is well rested and returns to the XI. He loves the big games this season, so expect a big performance.
Ruben Dias (CB) - City's summer signing got a rare, well earned rest at the weekend. At just 23, the impact he has had on City has been nothing short of exceptional.
Oleskandr Zinchenko (LB) - Zinchenko changed the game in the first leg from the bench with a fine attacking performance, thus gets drafted into the starting XI in hope of a similar showing for the second leg.
2. Midfielders
Rodri (DM) - The Spaniard still has some learning to do in order to truly take the reigns at the base of City's midfield, but can be relied upon to put in a solid defensive shift here.
Ilkay Gundogan (CM) - The German has become a different beast from midfield this season. Scoring goals for fun and leading the charge from deep to ensure City's possession-based dominance comes with a sting.
Bernardo Silva (CM) - Having a player like Silva within your squad is a cheat code in European competition. Technical ability? Yep. Line breaking passes? Yep. Can play him literally anywhere? That's a hat-trick. Priceless.
3. Forwards
Riyad Mahrez (RW) - Defenders know what his best trick is, but they just cannot stop that left foot from the inside. Mahrez popped up with a vital goal in the first leg, but another would be much appreciated.
Kevin De Bruyne (CF) - Leading the line in a versatile attack that is so difficult to pin down, De Bruyne starts through the middle for City.
Phil Foden (LW) - The 20-year-old continues to raise the bar with spellbinding performances and the second leg of a European semi-final provides Foden with another chance to add to his highlight reel.
