Xavi could change his mind about leaving Barcelona if they contend for the UEFA Champions League, transfer plans are soon decided and they ultimately ask him to stay, according to reports in Spain.

The legendary ex-midfielder announced his intent to step down from his role as Barca head coach at the end of January, having endured a tricky period of results in which the club lost two Clasico's, were knocked out of the Copa del Rey and all but surrendered their La Liga title to arch rivals Real Madrid.

Since announcing his departure however, Barcelona's form has improved dramatically. They are currently enjoying an impressive 10-game unbeaten run across all competitions, and recently booked their place in the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time since 2020.

Having seemingly re-found the form which led to Barcelona winning La Liga in 2022/23, fans of the Catalan club are now clamouring for their current boss to stay beyond the end of the current campaign.

According to a report from Sport, while Xavi hasn't changed his mind on his future, there are three conditions which, if met, could convince him to remain at the club.

If Barca's performances continue to improve and the club seriously contend for the Champions League - a trophy they haven't won since 2015 - if clearly defined transfer strategy for the summer is put in place and, perhaps most importantly, if the club specifically ask him to change his mind regarding his impending departure, then Xavi would consider staying.

While uncertainty of Xavi's future remains, Barcelona have been on the lookout for a potential replacement for the current coach. Hansi Flick, Roberto De Zerbi and Thomas Tuchel have all been linked with the post, with the latter due to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the 2023/24 season.
