The Tottenham Lineup That Should Start Against Crystal Palace
By Mitch Wilks
It's been a largely up and down season for Tottenham Hotspur, especially since Jose Mourinho arrived to replace Mauricio Pochettino in November.
Since then, Spurs seem to have gone through all the motions that every club goes through with Mourinho – only in a much shorter space of time. Spurs fans will hope that Mourinho can bring them some much needed silverware to the club in his first full season despite the controversy. If he makes it beyond summer, that is...
For now, though, a trip to Selhurst Park awaits them and a win is needed to ensure that Spurs secure Europa League football next season. Crystal Palace have lost seven straight, but will go all out against a mercurial Spurs side knowing that they have nothing to lose.
Tottenham cannot afford to underestimate their opponents on Sunday, despite their recent run of poor form. Here's how Mourinho should set up his side in order to secure an important victory.
1. Goalkeeper & Defenders
Hugo Lloris (GK) - Captain of the club, his experience will be of significant value as his side chase down a Europa League spot.
Serge Aurier (RB) - Aurier's desire to see out the remainder of the season despite dealing with the loss of his brother is nothing short of incredible. A sure start.
Toby Alderweireld (CB) - He's started in Spurs' previous two games, both of which his side have won. He starts again here.
Jan Vertonghen (CB) - Vertonghen starts in what seems like his final game for Spurs. His contract is set to expire upon the end of the season.
Ben Davies (LB) - The Welshman has become a favourite under Mourinho and looks more confident than ever. Keep him in the team.
2. Midfielders
Moussa Sissoko (CM) - Sissoko has been preferred to record signing Tanguy Ndombele ever since Mourinho joined Spurs and has backed it up on the pitch.
Giovani Lo Celso (CM) - Having made his move to north London permanent, Lo Celso has become a key player in the midfield. His qualities can't be ignored.
Dele Alli (CM) - Alli has thrived under the tutelage of his new head coach, who has allowed him to use his aggression to his advantage. He's available after recovering from a hamstring injury and must go straight back into the side.
3. Forwards
Lucas Moura (RW) - Perhaps the unsung hero of Spurs' front three, Lucas brings a lot to the side with tireless running and accurate deliveries. His ability will be needed to break down Palace's defence.
Harry Kane (ST) - Kane has four in his last two and bagged his 200th goal at club level with a brace against Newcastle. The England international is in blistering form ahead of Spurs' final game of the season.
Son Heung-min (LW) - Keeping Kane on his toes is Son, who is quickly becoming one of the most dangerous attackers in the Premier League. He got the opener in the game that Kane achieved said feat, and could be crucial again.
