The winner of the PFA Vertu Motors Championship Fans' Player of the Month - February
By 90min Staff
Middlesbrough forward Chuba Akpom has been named the PFA Vertu Motors Championship Fans' Player of the Month for February.
The reinvigorated 27-year-old stands alone at the top of the second tier's scoring charts with 23 already this season, with five of these strikes coming last month.
He saw off competition from Burnley's Nathan Tella, Coventry City's Viktor Gyokeres, Millwall's Tom Bradshaw, Reading's Tom Ince and Swansea City's Joel Piroe, taking in 28% of the total vote to retain his crown from January.
Akpom kicked off February in fine fashion, firing in a brace in a 3-0 win at home to Blackpool.
He played 89 minutes of Boro's 3-1 win at Cardiff City a week later, before scoring a phenomenal solo effort in their crucial 3-1 victory away at promotion rivals Sheffield United.
Akpom's scoring efforts for the month were rounded off with yet another brace, this time coming in a third-successive 3-1 win, with QPR on the losing end this time around.
Middlesbrough's five-mach winning run was brought to an end in their last game of February - a 2-0 loss at West Bromwich Albion - but they have since returned to form and Akpom has been back among the goals.
