Bayern Munich could sack head coach Thomas Tuchel immediately if the club fail to make it past Lazio in the Champions League last 16.

The German giants have already confirmed that Tuchel will leave at the end of the season after an abysmal run of form which has seen them fall ten points behind Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga title race.

The misery carried over to the Champions League as well. Bayern fell 1-0 to Lazio in their last-16 first leg last month and are at risk of crashing out of the tournament if they cannot overturn that deficit in the return leg on Tuesday.

According to Sky in Germany, Bayern could even terminate Tuchel's contract with immediate effect if they fail to make it to the quarter-finals.

Getting to the next round of the competition is crucial for Bayern, with even a bad victory expected to be enough to keep him in the job until the end of the season. However, a contract termination is 'likely' if Bayern are eliminated.

Club officials are reported to be growing increasingly concerned with the team's performances and fear Tuchel's commitment to the cause has faded since his exit was confirmed.

Now on a run of one win from their last four Bundesliga games, Bayern have fallen ten points behind Bayer Leverkusen in the league standings with just ten matches left to play.

Bayern chiefs had hoped that Tuchel would be able to steady the ship until the end of the season, when a move for top managerial target Xabi Alonso would be feasible, but they are worried that there could be further damage done before the end of the season without a change in the dugout.

Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is open to joining in an interim role but Bayern have not yet identified a preferred candidate to take over from Tuchel in the short-term.
