Tottenham Hotspur have announced the appointment of Johan Lange as their new technical director.

Lange will join Spurs from Aston Villa, where he spent three years as sporting director before transitioning to their global director of rootball development and international academies this summer.

He will officially begin work at Spurs on November 1.

A statement from Tottenham read: "We are delighted to announce that Johan Lange has been appointed Technical Director with effect from 1 November, 2023.

"Lange will have responsibility for recruitment, analytics and talent identification across our senior and academy teams.

"Lange held the role of Global Director of Football Development and International Academies at Aston Villa from June, 2023, having previously been Sporting Director from June, 2020. Lange oversaw several high profile player transfers, a period that saw Aston Villa move to the top half of the table.

"In 2014, Lange, having previously been an Assistant Coach, rejoined FC Copenhagen as Development Director and then Technical Director the same season.

"Commenting on his appointment, Scott Munn, Chief Football Officer, said, 'Johan has demonstrated an excellent track record of scouting and signing many talented and successful youth and senior players. He is a welcome addition as we strengthen our football operations'."

Tottenham have undergone a mini-overhaul of their recruitment structure in recent times. Managing director of football Fabio Paratici left the club earlier this year after receiving a global ban from football.

Spurs also saw the departure of chief scout Leonardo Gabbanini in September, with Munn only recently arriving as their chief football officer.

Aston Villa also announced changes to their internal structure following Lange's exit. In their own statement, the club said: "Aston Villa can confirm a new structure to the club's Youth Development and International Academies, which will now come under the leadership of Monchi, President of Football Operations.

"Matthew Kidson will take over from Johan Lange as Director of Global Development.

"Academy Manager Mark Harrison will continue to focus on UK operations from Bodymoor Heath and will report directly to Monchi, with Matthew overseeing international youth matters.

"This is a new and exciting chapter for the Club as it looks to successfully unearth, nurture and develop young talent both in the UK and overseas.

"The Club can confirm Johan is leaving his role and departs with the best wishes and gratitude of everyone here for his commitment and service during his time."
