Tottenham Hotspur have been keeping a close eye on the development of Blackburn Rovers midfielder Adam Wharton this season, sources have confirmed to 90min.

The 19-year-old has established himself as a key part of Jon Dahl Tomasson's Blackburn side since making his breakthrough into the first-team last season, making 39 appearances across the 2022/23 and 2023/24 campaigns thus far.

Wharton notably played the full 90 minutes of Blackburn's 2-0 defeat to Chelsea in the Carabao Cup last month, during which Rovers were competitive against a near full-strength Blues side.

He is now seen as one of the Championship's best young players, and his performances have not gone unnoticed by clubs in the top tier.

90min understands that Tottenham have been closely and intently watching Wharton's recent displays, though they are not the only team interested - Brighton & Hove Albion, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle United are all long-term admirers of the teenager.

Tottenham are on good terms with Blackburn having signed Wharton's former teammate Ashley Phillips from the Lancashire side during the summer transfer window. The 18-year-old centre-back has not yet played a senior match for Spurs, but has impressed at Under-21 level and has appeared in several of Ange Postecoglou's matchday squads.

Phillips was also expected to be given a chance to prove his worth in the first-team amid Tottenham's injury and suspension crisis before picking up an ankle injury on duty with England U19s this month.

Tottenham have made a conscious effort to recruit younger players of late. In addition to Phillips, they also secured the signing of 20-year-old Argentina youth international Alejo Veliz during summer, while an agreement is in place to bring in 16-year-old Luka Vuskovic from Hajduk Split once he turns 18.
