Having stuttered through 2024 thus far, Tottenham must deliver a statement performance at Villa Park on Sunday to boost their top four chances.

Fifth place, which Spurs currently occupy, may well be enough to qualify for next season's Champions League, but, as it stands, only the Premier League's top four will feature.

Ange Postecoglou knows that victory over Aston Villa, who sit five points ahead of his side having played a game more, would be Tottenham's most important triumph of the season so far.

Here's how the Aussie coach could set his Spurs side up on Sunday afternoon.

GK: Guglielmo Vicario - Clean sheets have been hard to come by in recent weeks, with Vicario failing to shut out an opponent in 2024 - excluding Spurs' FA Cup win over Burnley.

RB: Pedro Porro - Porro has been dealing with a muscle strain and has missed the last two games as a result. However, the right-back will be fit to return this weekend, Postecoglou has confirmed.

CB: Cristian Romero - Tottenham's vice-captain scored the go-ahead goal against Crystal Palace and remains immensely important for Postecoglou's side.

CB: Micky van de Ven - Spurs' lack of clean sheets certainly hasn't had anything to do with Van de Ven, who's been excellent since returning from injury.

LB: Destiny Udogie - Udogie returned to the starting lineup last weekend following a brief absence and he'll undoubtedly keep his place on Sunday.

CM: Yves Bissouma - Rodrigo Bentancur has struggled for consistency since returning early from an ankle injury, with Bissouma likely to remain at the base of Spurs' midfield.

CM: Pape Matar Sarr - A stellar performer this term, Sarr simply has to play against a direct and vertical Villa side.

RM: Dejan Kulusevski - Brennan Johnson could wreak havoc at Villa Park with his searing speed, but the Welshman is more likely to be used off the bench as an impact sub.

AM: James Maddison - The probing Maddison will prove pivotal in Spurs penetrating Villa's aggressive defensive line.

LM: Timo Werner - After scoring his first Tottenham goal in the 3-1 win over Palace. the likeable German deserves to retain his place.

CF: Son Heung-min - Villa will want to ensure that Son does not have the chance to bear down on Emi Martinez's goal given his proficiency in such situations. He added to his goal tally last weekend.
