Transfer deadline day was the last chance for clubs around Europe to complete their summer business.
Spending in 2023, especially in the Premier League and Saudi Arabia, has been at its extravagant best, with records shattered this summer amid big-money moves for Moises Caicedo, Declan Rice and others.
But there was more to come as clubs looked to tie up some last minute deals, reacting to injuries, niggles and unforeseen fluctuations in the market.
Here's how things unfolded throughout the day.

There's a few deals that are set to be confirmed in the wee hours when you should (should) all be asleep.

Well, this is a good signing, isn't it?
Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of highly-rated midfielder Sangare from PSV Eindhoven.
The midfielder has signed a five-year deal at the City Ground.
00:00 - BOURNEMOUTH COMPLETE SWAP DEAL WITH LEEDS UNITED
Bournemouth have confirmed the loan signing of Luis Sinisterra from Leeds United for the 2023/24 season.
As part of the deal, Leeds are set to receive Jaidon Anthony on loan too.
23:50 - LIVERPOOL YOUNGSTER LEAVES ON LOAN
Tyler Morton has joined Championship side Hull City on loan until the end of the season.
The 20-year-old signed a new deal at Anfield in January, and will get some much needed gametime during his spell at Hull.
23:30 - OFFICIAL - RANDAL KOLO MUANI HAS JOINED PSG
It's finally done.
Paris Saint-Germain have officially confirmed the signing of forward Randal Kolo Muani from Eintracht Frankfurt.
90min understands that the Ligue 1 giants have paid £77m for Kolo Muani's services.
23:20 - NEAL MAUPAY RETURNS TO BRENTFORD ON LOAN
Former fan favourite Neal Maupay has returned to Brentford on loan from Everton.
The striker scored 41 goals for the club between 2017 and 2019 before moving to Brighton and Hove Albion.
23:15 - WOLVES SIGN MATHEUS NUNES REPLACEMENT
Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed the signing of midfielder Jean-Ricner Bellegarde on a five-year deal.
The ex-Strasbourg man can play in central midfield, potentially in the position vacated by Nunes who joined Man City on Friday morning.
23:10 - BURNLEY CONFIRM SIGNING OF MIKE TRESOR ON LOAN
Burnley have confirmed the loan signing of Belgium international Mike Tresor from Genk for the 2023/24 season.
Speaking to the club's official website after making the move, Tresor said: “I’m feeling happy, really happy. Deadline day but really happy to be here finally.
“The project and of course the vision of the coach here, I had a long discussion with the coach so that convinced me at the end as well to make the decision.
“I can’t wait to join the group. I’m excited to see the team play and hopefully after, join them on the field.”
23:00 - MASON GREENWOOD MAKES LOAN MOVE TO GETAFE
Mason Greenwood has officially join Getafe on loan from Manchester united until the end of the season.
The forward came to an agreement with Man Utd that he should continue his career elsewhere after an internal investigation regarding the rape and assault charges levied at him in January 2022.
23:00 - ROB HOLDING JOINS CRYSTAL PALACE
Crystal Palace have announced the permanent signing of Rob Holding from Arsenal.
The English defender has joined the Selhurst Park for a reported fee of £4m, ending a seven-year stint at the Emirates Stadium.
23:00 - OFFICIAL - BRENNAN JOHNSON IS A TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR PLAYER
Tottenham have announced the signing of talented forward Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest.
The Welsh international has signed a deal which runs until 2029 at the club and will wear the number 22 shirt in north London.
22:50 - CHELSEA YOUNGSTER JOINS OLYMPIQUE LYONNAIS
Yet another Chelsea youngster has left the club, this time it's Diego Moreira.
The wide player has joined Lyon on loan for the 2022/23 season, and is likely seen by the Ligue 1 club as a replacement for Bradley Barcola - who joined PSG this month.
22:45 - ERIC GARCIA JOINS GIRONA ON LOAN
Barcelona have confirmed that they have sent Eric Garcia out on loan to Girona on deadline day.
The centre-back played 52 La Liga games for Barca after making a move from Manchester City in 2021.
22:35: ALBERT SAMBI LOKONGA JOINS LUTON TOWN ON LOAN
Luton Town have confirmed the loan signing of Albert Sambi Lokonga from Arsenal on deadline day.
A much needed signing for a club who have zero Premier League points this season thus far.
22:30 - DONE DEAL! SOFYAN AMRABAT IS A MAN UTD PLAYER
Manchester United have officially confirmed the signing of Sofyan Amrabat on loan from Fiorentina.
Man Utd are set to pay a loan fee of around £8.5m, and have the option to sign the player outright for an additional £17.1m upon the expiration of his loan. Man Utd would also commit to paying £4.3m in performance based add-ons if they choose to take up their option to sign the player permanently next June.
22:10 - PATSON DAKA DEAL OFF
Sources have told 90min that Patson Daka's proposed move to Bournemouth from Leicester City has fallen through.
The forward had been expected to return to the Premier League with the Cherries on deadline day.
22:05 - NOTTINGHAM FOREST AGREE FEE FOR ANDREW OMOBAMIDELE
90min understands that Nottingham Forest have agreed to pay £20m for Republic of Ireland international Andrew Omobamidele.
Forest quickly moved for the Norwich City star after a bid to sign Trevoh Chalobah fell through.
22:00 - SOFYAN AMRABAT HAS PUT PEN TO PAPER
Sources have confirmed to 90min that Sofyan Amrabat has signed his Manchester United contract.
The midfielder completed his medical today and is now set to be officially confirmed as a Man Utd player.
21:50 - JOAO CANCELO JOINS BARCELONA ON LOAN
Barcelona have secured another Portugal international on loan on deadline day.
After Joao Felix, Barca have now signed Joao Cancelo on a season-long loan from Manchester City. A busy day for La Blaugrana!
21:45 - LIVERPOOL CONFIRM SIGNING OF RYAN GRAVENBERCH
Liverpool have officially confirmed the signing of midfielder Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich on a long-term contract.
Speaking to the club's official website after making the move, Liverpool's new number 38 said: “I’m very happy. Very happy that the deal is done and I’m finally here.
“If you see it from the outside, it’s one of the biggest clubs in the world. Also the fans, the stadium, I think everything from the outside is top. So that’s why [it was the right club].”

21:35 - CELTIC SIGN PAULO BERNARDO ON LOAN
Another official confirmation, this time from Celtic who have announced the signing of Paulo Bernardo on loan from Benfica.
The club will retain an option to buy the midfielder outright at the end of the season.
21:30 - JOAO FELIX HAS OFFICIALLY JOINED BARCELONA
Barcelona have confirmed the loan signing of Joao Felix from La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid.
A statement from Barcelona reads: "FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement for the loan of the player Joao Felix until 30 June 2024. There is no option for a permanent transfer.
"The club wishes to thank the player publicly for the financial effort made and his desire to wear the Barca shirt."
21:00 - IBRAHIMA SANGARE ARRIVES IN ENGLAND
90min understands that Ibrahima Sangare has arrived in England ahead of finalising his move to Nottingham Forest from PSV Eindhoven.
Sangare represents a huge coup for Forest in the market. The midfielder had been courted by the likes of Liverpool this summer.
20:40 - CONOR GALLAGHER STAYING PUT
Despite interest from Tottenham Hotspur, 90min understands that Conor Gallagher is set to remain at Chelsea beyond the summer transfer window.

20:00 - JOAO PALHINHA HEADS BACK TO LONDON
Bayern Munich thought they would be able to squeeze through a move for Joao Palhinha, but Fulham did not want to sanction a deal without bringing in a replacement.
The Portugal midfielder has now been spotted at Munich airport getting ready to return to west London.
19:30 - SOFYAN AMRABAT MOVE EDGES CLOSER
Man Utd are close to finalising a deal for Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.
The Morocco international has completed part of his medical in Italy ahead of his move to Old Trafford.

PSV Eindhoven have announced the signing of Hirving Lozano from SSC Napoli on deadline day.

18:35 - BOURNEMOUTH CLOSE TO FINALISING PATSON DAKA DEAL
90min understands Bournemouth are edging closer to finalising a loan deal to sign Patson Daka from Leicester City.
The striker bagged four goals in the Premier League for Leicester last season.
18:25 - LIEL ABADA SIGNS CONTRACT EXTENSION AT CELTIC
One player who definitely won't be moving clubs today is Liel Abada.
The Israel international has put pen to paper on a new four year deal at Parkhead and, speaking about doing so to Celtic TV, Abada said: “I’m really happy to sign the new contract.
Now we have a target for this season and we’re looking forward. The most important thing for me is to improve every day and in every game. I want to get better for the team to achieve our targets. Every time I score for this club is really amazing. To score in Celtic Park is always special and the atmosphere is amazing.
"Hopefully I can show more this season for everyone and I will try and get better for the team.
“Every time you play at a club like Celtic you have a lot of great players and a lot of competition."
18:20 - LUKA JOVIC JOINS AC MILAN FROM FIORENTINA
Luka Jovic has completed a move from Fiorentina to AC Milan on a permanent deal.
The striker is seen as a replacement for Divock Origi, who looks set to join Nottingham Forest on loan before the window shuts.
18:00 - NOTTINGHAM FOREST CONFIRM SIGNING OF CALLUM HUDSON-ODOI
Nottingham Forest have confirmed the signing of Callum Hudson-Odoi on a three-year deal from Chelsea.
Speaking after finalising the reported £5m move, Hudson-Odoi said: "It’s massive for me to be here and I can’t wait to get started. It’s a new chapter for me.
“I know a couple of the boys already which was a big thing for me, and I obviously know the manager well, so it’s nice to be here and see familiar faces around.
“Forest is a big club which won two massive trophies in its history and I’m really excited to play at The City Ground. I know all about the atmosphere having watched a couple of times and I can’t wait to get playing in front of the Forest fans.”
17:45 - WOLVES GET THEIR MATHEUS NUNES REPLACEMENT
90min understands that Wolverhampton Wanderers have reached an agreement to sign Jean-Ricner Bellegarde.
The 25-year-old has spent five seasons at RC Strasbourg, and is seen as both the replacement for Matheus Nunes and, according to 90min's Graeme Bailey, the player with the most Harry Potter wizard-sounding name of all deadline day signings.

17: 15 - NOTTINGHAM FOREST CONFIRM SIGNING OF NICOLAS DOMINGUEZ
Nottingham Forest have officially confirmed the signing of Nicolas Dominguez from Bologna on a five-year deal, with Remo Freuler moving in the other direction.
Speaking to his new club's official website after making the move, Dominguez said: "It feels amazing to join a club with so much history in England and the Premier League.
"I watched the game Forest played against Sheffield United, I saw the fans in the stadium and it attracted me.
"I'm over the moon and keen to embrace this challenge."
17:10 - JOAO PALHINHA DEAL OFF
90min understands that Fulham pulled the plug on Joao Palhinha's move to Bayern Munich just before the Bundesliga transfer window shut.
Palhinha had in fact been pictured at the Bayern training ground today waiting for Fulham to give the green light for a move, however they have not done so due to the Cottagers not being able to find an adequate replacement for their star midfielder.
As things stand, the Palhinha deal falling through is not expected to nix Ryan Gravenberch's move to Liverpool.
17:00 - ARMEL BELLA-KOTCHAP TO JOIN BAYERN MUNICH
90min understands that Armel Bella-Kotchap is in London to complete a medical ahead of confirming his move to Bayern Munich.
The young defender is set to move to Allianz Arena as Benjamin Pavard's replacement on an initial loan deal. Sources have confirmed that Bayern jumped to the head of the queue of teams trying to sign Bella-Kotchap after a move to Borussia Dortmund fell through.
16:45 - CONFIRMED DEADLINE DAY DEALS
A lot has happened on September 1 already. Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City are just a few of the heavyweight clubs to make moves thus far.
Man Utd added some full-back cover in the shape of Sergio Reguilon on loan after news broke the Luke Shaw will be out for a considerable length of time.
Chelsea have gone out and spent a bucketload on yet another wide forward in the shape of Cole Palmer from Manchester City for a reported £45m.
And Man City themselves have been busy too, confirming the signing of Matheus Nunes from Wolves.

16: 35 - WHEN DOES THE TRANSFER WINDOW CLOSE?
So before we dive into all the juicy transfer gossip, let's get the lay of the land.
The Premier League transfer window has been opened since June 14 and will finally slam shut on September 1 at 23:00 BST.
The window closes at the same down up and down the English footballing pyramid, however across the continent and beyond things are little bit different. Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and Bundesliga windows all shut today too, but not all at 23:00 BST.
Some other clubs from even further afield have even longer to sign player, with the big spending Saudi Pro League sides having until September 20 to make signings
