Transfer deadline day is the last chance for clubs around Europe to complete their summer business.

Spending in 2023, especially in the Premier League and Saudi Arabia, has been at its extravagant best, with records shattered this summer amid big-money moves for Moises Caicedo, Declan Rice and others.

But there's more to come as clubs look to tie up some last minute deals, reacting to injuries, niggles and unforeseen fluctuations in the market.

Below was the morning and early afternoon action from 90min's live blog.

THE BIGGEST STORIES ON DEADLINE DAY

manual

17:10 - HEAD OVER TO THE SECOND PART OF OUR LIVE BLOG

That concludes the first part of 90min's deadline day live blog coverage - click here to reach part two and the deals that will see out the summer window!

17:05 - PALHINHA TO BAYERN OFF

It's the first big 'oh my god' moment of deadline day!

Bayern Munich had everything in place for Joao Palhinha to join the club from Fulham - he'd been given permission to do a medical, was at the club's training ground for media work and was ready to put on the shirt and sign a contract.

But Fulham hadn't fully signed off on the deal, wanting to get a replacement locked in for Palhinha, and because the Bundesliga window closes at 5pm, they haven't gone through with it - the Portuguese international must now head back to London.

Quite what he'll make of it remains to be seen.

17:00 - WOLVES AGREE TERMS FOR STRASBOURG MIDFIELDER

Wolves have agreed a €15m (£12.8m) deal for Strasbourg's Jean-Ricner Bellegarde - a move that is likely to be directedly linked to Matheus Nunes' transfer to Manchester City.

A vital body in the door for Gary O'Neil at Molineux providing there's no late hiccups.

16:40 - BAYERN TURN TO CHALOBAH ALTERNATIVE

With Borussia Dortmund backing away from Armel Bella-Kotchap, Bayern Munich have swooped in to sign the Southampton defender on loan.

The Bavarians have acted after failing to agree terms with Chelsea over Trevoh Chalobah, who the Blues were only wanting to sell on a permanent basis. That, and the steep £50m asking price, has seen Bayern now look to highly-rated Bella-Kotchap in a bid to bolster Thomas Tuchel's options.

16:25 - KOSTIC TO WEST HAM UNLIKELY

West Ham's chances of signing Filip Kostic from Juventus have diminished in the last few hours after further talks.

The Hammers would like to bring in more bodies but negotiations over the Serbian international have not led to an agreement. A trip to Luton Town awaits for West Ham at 8pm, for reasons unknown.

16:20 - BOURNEMOUTH IN TALKS OVER SINISTERRA LOAN

Bournemouth look to be making a move of their own on deadline day, pinching Luis Sinisterra away from Leeds United on loan with an option to buy.

The 24-year-old struggled with injury problems last season but still scored six times in 21 Premier League games - not a bad return for a side who were relegated.

16:00 - REGUILON SPEAKS AS MAN UTD CONFIRM LOAN DEAL

Manchester United have confirmed the arrival of Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham on a season-long loan deal.

The Spaniard has come in to fill the void left by injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, and will look to add to the 230 club appearances he has made for Real Madrid, Sevilla, Spurs and Atletico Madrid.

“In life you have to be ready for everything and the chance to represent this great club with such an illustrious history is one that I could not turn down.

“Having spoken to the manager, I know what he needs from me, and I am ready to play my part in helping the team to achieve success. I know that I can contribute to Manchester United this season; I am ready to fight for this group and show everyone my qualities.”

15:50 - TANGANGA DEPARTS TOTTENHAM

Tottenham have confirmed the departure of Japhet Tanganga on a season-long loan deal that could become a permanent switch if certain conditions are met.

15:45 - HOLDING TO UNDERGO PALACE MEDICAL

Crystal Palace are closing in on the signing of Arsenal centre-back Rob Holding.

The 27-year-old is expected to undergo a medical ahead of a permanent move to Selhurst Park, bringing the curtain down on a seven-year career in north London.

15:40 - BARCELONA CONFIDENT OF SIGNING CANCELO & JOAO FELIX

Barcelona are confident of signing both Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo today from Atletico Madrid and Manchester City respectively.

Whether or not Barca can afford to register both is another matter, but space has been made on the wage bill by the exits of Lenglet and Fati.

15:35 - CHELSEA AGREE TO SELL MAATSEN BUT PLAYER NOT SURE

Chelsea have agreed to sell Ian Maatsen to Burnley in a loan to buy deal worth £31.5m, but the player himself is unsure about a return to Turf Moor.

90min understands that Maatsen has also stalled on new contract talks at Stamford Bridge, with his future now far from certain.

15:35 - SHEFFIELD UNITED CONFIRM MCATEE RETURN

Sheffield United have picked up James McAtee from Manchester City on loan until the end of the season.

It's a return to Bramall Lane for McAtee, who starred in the club's promotion campaign last season.

15:30 - FOREST AGREE DEAL FOR SANGARE

Nottingham Forest are on the verge of completing one of the shrewdest pieces of transfer business this summer, with a deal agreed with PSV Eindhoven for Ibrahim Sangare.

The highly-rated Ivorian has been at PSV for three years, joining from Toulouse, but has long been linked with a move to the Premier League. 90min understands that will now come to fruition at Forest, who have agreed to pay £30m including add-ons.

Sangare should be joined by Odysseas Vlachodimos and Callum Hudson-Odoi before the day is out.

15:20 - CRYSTAL PALACE ENTER EKITIKE RACE

The race for Hugo Ekitike has taken another twist, with Crystal Palace now coming in strong for the talented young forward.

West Ham and Brentford have held talks already, but PSG's preference to see him head to Eintracht Frankfurt is looking less and less likely by the hour.

15:00 - POCHETTINO WANTS GALLAGHER STAY

Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino has said that he wants Conor Gallagher to stay at the club amid links with rivals Tottenham.

The 23-year-old was praised for his "commitment" to the club by the Argentine, who also stated that the former Crystal Palace loan star is an "important player" in Chelsea's squad.

"Conor is a consistent player than can perform in different positions. We are so happy with him. Circumstances happen in the past that we can say nothing [about], we can only express our feeling from day one that we have started to work and he has shown great commitment to the club. We are happy with him, he was captain two days ago against Wimbledon, he is an important player. What is going to happen in the future, I cannot tell you."

14:50 - MAN UTD NOT EXPECTING MCTOMINAY EXIT

Manchester United are not expecting to lose Scott McTominay before the transfer window closes, but do hope for movement in regards to Donny van de Beek and Eric Bailly.

McTominay also drawn interest from Bayern Munich, Fulham and Inter recently, with West Ham also admirers of the Scotland international. But remaining at Old Trafford is almost certain at this stage, though United hope Van de Beek will be exiting on loan.

Lorient and Galatasaray are among the sides keen on the Dutchman, whereas Bailly has attracted interest from the Saudi Pro League.

14:25 - AL ITTIHAD WILLING TO BREAK TRANSFER RECORD FOR SALAH

Mohamed Salah

Al Ittihad are prepared to break the world transfer record for Mohamed Salah after seeing a £150m bid rejected by Liverpool.

The cash-rich Saudi Pro League want to make Salah the cornerstone signing of what's been an incredible transfer window, having initially planned to make a move for the Egyptian in 2024.

Liverpool have turned down a mega-money offer and have no interest in selling, but Salah is open to move the move and Saudi representatives have received encouragement that a deal is there to be done.

14:10 - BRENTFORD CLOSE TO RE-SIGNING MAUPAY

Brentford may not need to go after Hugo Ekitike after agreeing to take former striker Neal Maupay on loan with an option to buy.

Maupay has endured a torrid spell at Everton, scoring just once in 28 Premier League games, but is due to undergo a medical ahead of returning to Brentford four years after he left the club for Brighton & Hove Albion.

The 27-year-old scored 37 Championship goals in 85 games for Brentford in a two-year stint.

13:55 - MAN UTD AGREE AMRABAT LOAN DEAL

Manchester United have finally agreed the loan signing of Fiorentina's Sofyan Amrabat, who will now travel for a medical with the 13-time Premier League winners.

13:45 - EKITIKE WANTS PREMIER LEAGUE MOVE

Paris Saint-Germain's hopes of sending Hugo Ekitike to Eintracht Frankfurt, smoothing over the deal for Randal Kolo Muani, have been dashed by the player's preference to head to the Premier League.

West Ham are interested in taking the Frenchman on loan, while Brentford may offer him a permanent route away from the Parc des Princes after missing out on PSV's Johan Bakayoko. PSG want a permanent sale which could play into the hands of the Bees.

13:15 - BRIGHTON SNAP UP ANSU FATI ON LOAN

What a move this is for Roberto De Zerbi and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Ansu Fati, courted by some of the biggest clubs in the world and regarded as one of the best young talents to graduate from Barcelona's famed La Masia academy, has arrived on loan until the end of the season, helping to reduce a bulging Barca wage bill that has needed bringing under control.

He has 29 goals and ten assists to his name in 112 appearances for Barcelona.

"This is a great deal for all of us. I am sure Ansu will help us to reach a new target and we can help him get back at the level he deserves to be." - Roberto De Zerbi on Fati's arrival.

13:00 - CHELSEA WANT MORE SOUTH AMERICAN TALENT

Chelsea have already completed, or agreed future, deals for Kendry Paez, Angelo and Deivid Washington, but they are not done there in the South American market.

90min understands that talks are ongoing with Corinthians over teenage midfielder Gabriel Moscardo, who has made just ten first-team appearnaces to date.

12:50 - MAN UTD WILLING TO LET GREENWOOD GO FOR FREE

12:30 - CANCELO ONLY HAS EYES FOR BARCELONA

Joao Cancelo only wants to join Barcelona on loan from Manchester City, amid reports of sudden interest from Bayern Munich.

The Portuguese full-back, who can play on both sides, spent the second half of last season at the Allianz Arena, but it's Spain where he wants to continue his career.

12:25 - EDU APPEARS TO RULE OUT MORE ARSENAL BUSINESS

Arsenal director of football Edu has seemingly ruled out any late transfer business from last season's Premier League runners-up.

The Gunners have signed Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber for big money this summer, balancing their books by sanctioning exits for Granit Xhaka, Folarin Balogun and Matt Turner among others.

After the Champions League draw on Thursday, Edu said the following:

"As everyone saw, we made a strong strategy to be very proactive at the beginning of the transfer window and I think we did it. Now we are talking about trying to balance the squad a little bit better.

"We keep talking to a few clubs, but so far, we are really happy with the transfer window and we have to say thank you very much to all the people that work at the club to make that happen - good, exciting season ahead for us!"

12:10 - WILL SALAH LEAVE LIVERPOOL ON DEADLINE DAY?

It would take an extraordinary turn of events for Mohamed Salah to leave Liverpool within the next 12 hours, but an exit can't be ruled out entirely despite Jurgen Klopp's defiant statement in his pre-match media duties.

Saudi Pro League officials want to make Salah the highest-paid footballer in the world, uniting him with Karim Benzema, N'Golo Kante and former Liverpool team-mate Fabinho at Al Ittihad.

12:00 - PSG CLOSE IN ON KOLO MUANI SIGNING

Paris Saint-Germain's drawn out of pursuit of Eintracht Frankfurt's Randal Kolo Muani finally looks to heading in the right direction.

The Ligue 1 champions have been chasing Kolo Muani all summer long but haven't been able to agree a fee with Frankfurt. But an €90m (£77m)) agreement is all but in place with just hours of the window remaining, with PSG hoping that Hugo Ekitike agrees to head the other way to ensure there are no last minute bumps in the road.

11:45 - WEST HAM PROGRESSING KOSTIC TALKS

West Ham are not giving up in their pursuit of Juventus' Filip Kostic, and sources have told 90min that talks over a move to London Stadium are progressing.

The Serb was in the crosshairs of David Moyes last summer, before joining Juve from Eintracht Frankfurt, but he hasn't featured under Max Allegri this season and is open to leaving. The Hammers have discussed both a loan and permanent deal, with the former believed to be West Ham's preference.

11:45 - ASTON VILLA SIGN LENGLET ON LOAN

Unai Emery has been cursed with rotten injury luck already this season, losing Emi Buendia and Tyrone Mings to serious cruciate ligament damage, but has managed to draft in some cover for the latter.

Clement Lenglet, who spent last season on loan at Tottenham, has joined on a similar arrangement from Barcelona, reinforcing the Villans' options ahead of their Conference League campaign.

11:30 - LUTON IN TALKS TO SIGN SAMBI LOKONGA ON LOAN

After spending last season at Crystal Palace on loan, Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga is now the subject of interest from Premier League boys Luton Town.

The Hatters are keen on taking the 23-year-old Belgian until the end of the season, while they also maintain an interest in Middlesbrough's Paddy McNair, who came through Manchester United's academy.

11:20 - TOTTENHAM CONFIDENT OF JOHNSON DEAL

Sources have confirmed to 90min that Tottenham are increasingly confident of signing Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest on deadline day.

Ange Postecoglou is drawn to Johnson's ability to play anywhere across the front line and a deal worth close to £50m could be agreed for the 22-year-old heading into the final few hours of the window.

11:15 - TUCHEL REVEALS WHY GRAVENBERCH IS JOINING LIVERPOOL

He's wanted to go for a while. An offer came in, we discussed it. The outcome is clear."

10:55 - FULHAM REACH IWOBI AGREEMENT

Fulham have agreed a deal worth over £20m for Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi. The Nigerian international is already in the capital to undergo a medical, and will strengthen Marco Silva's options both centrally and out wide.

The Cottagers are facing a battle to keep Joao Palhinha though - he's waiting for Bayern Munich to put forward a suitable offer that will allow him to move to Bavaria on a five-year contract.

10:50 - UNITED CONFIDENT OF AMRABAT DEAL

Manchester United are confident of completing a deal for Fiorentina defensive midfielder Sofyan Amrabat before the deadline.

10:45 - ADARABIOYO WANTS MONACO MOVE, TOTTENHAM EYE KELLY

Fulham centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo is pushing to join Monaco before the transfer window closes as there's more chance of him playing regular first-team football there than at Tottenham.

The Lilywhites have turned their attention to Bournemouth's Lloyd Kelly as a result, but a £20m offer has already been rejected by the Cherries.

10:40 - MANCHESTER CITY SIGN NUNES

An incoming that's now confirmed at the Etihad Stadium is Matheus Nunes from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Portuguese midfielder has inked a five-year deal to play under Pep Guardiola, and leaves Molineux after just one season at the club.

10:30 - SHEFFIELD UNITED TO SIGN MCATEE ON LOAN

Sheffield United will re-sign James McAtee on loan from Manchester City after he impressed in their promotion-winning Championship campaign.

McAtee had other options but has opted to reunite with Paul Heckingbottom.

10:15 - NUNO TAVARES JOINS NOTTINGHAM FOREST

Nottingham Forest have confirmed the signing of Arsenal full-back Nuno Tavares on loan with an option to buy.

The 23-year-old spent last season at Marseille, but the deal did not include a clause to become permanent and he returned to the Emirates Stadium. He'll now spend the season working under Steve Cooper, with the hope of securing a more long-term switch in the future.

10:05 - REINIER LEAVES REAL MADRID

It's not a permanent exit for former wonderkid Reinier, but his latest loan move away from the Bernabeu would suggest his chances of ever breaking into the team are slim at best.

Newly-promoted Frosinone is his latest destination, with the Brazilian no doubt hoping this spell in Serie A goes better than past moves to Borussia Dortmund and Girona.

09:55 - GREENWOOD COULD LEAVE MAN UTD ON LOAN

Mason Greenwood's representatives are working to secure a transfer away from Manchester United.

Greenwood hasn't played for United since January 2022 after being suspended by the club following charges of rape and assault against him. All charges were subsequently dropped after prosecutors admitted a conviction was unrealistic based on the withdrawal of key witnesses and new evidence.

His Old Trafford career is over, with United previously confirming in a statement that the club will move on without Greenwood, and 90min understands a move away is now in the works, potentially to Italy or Turkey - the latter's transfer deadline isn't until September 15.

09:40 - KLOPP REAFFIRMS LIVERPOOL'S SALAH STANCE

Mohamed Salah

There's significant cause for concern on Merseyside as the Saudi Pro League attempts to lure Mohamed Salah over to the Middle East to become the highest-paid player in the football.

Champions Al Ittihad are keen to do a deal for Salah - backed by the rather deep pockets of PIF - and are willing to pay Liverpool in excess of £120m to get a deal over the line.

The Reds don't want to sell, for obvious reasons, but may find the money too good to turn down considering Salah is 31. Nevertheless, Jurgen Klopp told the media on Friday: "Our position remains the same. No offer as far as I know."

09:30 - IT'S OFFICIAL - CHELSEA GET THE DEAL DONE!

Chelsea have now confirmed Palmer's arrival at Stamford Bridge - he's inked a seven-year contract with the option of a further 12 months.

"I’m excited to get started and it feels great to sign.," Pamer said. "I've joined Chelsea because the project here sounds good and because of the platform I will have to try to showcase my talents. It is a young and hungry squad and, hopefully, we can do something special here."

09:20 - PALMER SAYS GOODBYE TO MANCHESTER CITY

Cole Palmer's move from Manchester City to Chelsea is on the verge of completion, and the young winger has taken to Instagram to post a message of thanks to all those who have supported him at the Premier League champions.

The Blues have committed to paying up to £45m for Palmer, who scored City's leveller against Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup final - a game they went on to win on penalties.

09:15 - SOUTHAMPTON SIGN HARWOOD-BELLIS ON LOAN

Manchester City have allowed young central defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis out on loan again, this time to recently-relegated Southampton.

The 21-year-old was a key part of the Burnley team promoted to the Premier League last season, and followed up that achievement by playing a starring role in England's Under-21 European Championship success in the summer. But it's a return to the second tier for Harwood-Bellis after Vincent Kompany opted against trying to make the move permanent.

09:10 - WEST HAM TRYING TO SIGN KOSTIC, BRAZIL DEALS UNLIKELY

West Ham are trying to add to the impressive transfer business they've completed in recent weeks, but technical director Tim Steidten may be returning from Brazil empty handed.

Yuri Alberto had been his main focus of attention, but Corinthians' demands, in addition to Zenit co-owning 50 per cent of his rights, have complicated matters to say the least. Flamengo's Pedro and Santos' Marcos Leonardo have also been mentioned in dispatches but moves look unlikely.

The Hammers are also trying to sign Filip Kostic from Juventus, a target from last summer, but an opening offer has been rejected by Juventus. They've also asked about young winger Samuel Iling-Junior.

09:05 - MAN UTD COMPLETE FIRST SIGNING

Manchester United have their first deadline day signing in the bag and it's goalkeeper Altay Bayindir on a four-year contract.

The Red Devils allowed Dean Henderson to join Crystal Palace on Thursday and have moved swiftly to bring in an understudy to Andre Onana. Speaking to United's club channels after signing, Bayindir remarked: "It is a huge honour to join Manchester United and become the first Turkish player to represent this incredible club.

"I have a passion for success, and I will give everything to help this special group of players to achieve our ambitions.

08:15 - WHEN DOES THE TRANSFER WINDOW CLOSE?

Having opened on June 14, the summer transfer window for Premier League teams slams shut at 23:00 BST on September 1.

The window will close at the same time in the EFL, but there will be some variation around the major leagues in Europe. Serie A, La Liga, the Bundesliga and Ligue 1 all shut on September 1, but the times are not the same for everyone which usually adds to the chaos and panic.

Turkish and Portuguese clubs will be buying players up until September 15 and 22 respectively - opening up the possibility of sales without the ability to replace - but perhaps more importantly, the Saudi Pro League transfer window is open until September 20.
