Twitter explodes as Edinson Cavani scores goal of the season contender
Edinson CAVANIIIIIIII!!!
Manchester United fans have had to wait an eternity to return to Old Trafford, but just 15 minutes into their Premier League clash against Fulham they were rewarded for their extended patience.
Latching onto a clever, around-the-corner flick from Bruno Fernandes, Cavani spotted Alphonse Areola off his line as he advanced into Fulham's half. What happened next will go down in United folklore.
The 10,000 or so lucky fans inside Old Trafford loved it, as did the thousands watching at home and at pubs across the country.
Many United and non-United supporters took to Twitter to voice their admiration as well.
After the dust had settled on one of the goals of the season, people's thoughts turned - as they often will over the next few months - to the transfer story of the summer. Namely, where Tottenham talisman Harry Kane will end up.
Opinion was split fairly evenly about whether United should persist with Cavani for another season or bring in Kane to play alongside the Uruguayan. Now, that would be some spectacle.
And if all that chat isn't enough to warm your cockles, take comfort in the fact that Bruno - he was the one to 'assist' the goal, remember - actually missed the ball when attempting to flick it (by quite some way), meaning Cavani was in fact offside (he was when David de Gea cleared the ball) and the whole thing should never had stood.
Excellent.
