Twitter reacts as Croatia beats Canada 4-1
After qualifying for their first World Cup in 36 years, last featuring in the 1986 edition, Canada entered the tournament as underdogs. Despite the initial 1-0 loss to Belgium, John Herdman's side were not going to go down without a fight.
They started off strong, opening up the scoring in the second minute of the match with a header by Alphonso Davies. The Bayer Munich player will go down in history for recording Canada's first ever World Cup goal.
It also stands as the fastest goal of the 2022 World Cup, thus far.
But the lead did not last long, as Croatia responded with two of their own.
To make matters worse, Croatia scored two more in the second half. Canada simply crumbled.
The Canadian men's national team has been officially eliminated from knockout round contention after two consecutive losses. Even if Canada defeat Morocco in the last match of the group stage, the team cannot advance to the round of 16.
