Twitter reacts as Man Utd beat Newcastle in Carabao Cup final

Manchester United bested Newcastle United to win their first trophy in five years on Sunday at Wembley Stadium.
Here's how football Twitter reacted:
Much of the narrative before the game was about Newcastle goalkeeper Loris Karius, who was back in the spotlight after a nearly three years in the wilderness.
The Liverpool goalkeeper definitely wasn't inspiring confidence in the warm-up either...

In contrast, the Newcastle supporters were in brilliant form before kick-off (and afterwards too).

Sure enough, questions were asked of Karius for Man Utd's second goal, and Liverpool fans felt plenty of empathy.

None of this was going down very well with Alan Shearer, of course. He definitely wasn't seeing any funny side. Judging by Steve Harper's face, Shearer wasn't the best company either!

As Newcastle made the early running in the game, there were some real heavyweight contests, especially from set-pieces.

Another heavyweight was eyeing a second-half knockout for Man Utd.
Newcastle have well and truly felt the FURY this first half from the lads @ManUtd 2-0 HT π₯

All to play for but we need to push on and deliver the final KO second half and lift that trophy π #CarabaoCupFinal
It was Antony, though, who proved Dan Burn's real nemesis on the day though.

And Wout Weghorst, who created the second goal for Man Utd, was impressing too.
I want to know how Wout Weghorst became the absolute perfect centre forward apart from the whole shooting/scoring part. He's probably the best defensive striker I have ever seen & pulls out some unreal passes.

Ultimately, though, all the meaningful action was in the first half, and Newcastle's long wait for a trophy continues.
Congratulations to the Newcastle squad of 1955 who are still the last set of players to win silverware for the club π pic.twitter.com/D6FbiMFivc

Although the Newcastle fans still showed their appreciation for their players.
Defiant flag waving in the 90th minuteβ¦. But no trophy. The wait - almost a lifetime domestically - continues #nufc #CarabaoCupFinal pic.twitter.com/uyHsOeHlbl
