The engraver of the FA Cup trophy had to return to Wembley to add 'City' to the plaque on Saturday as Pep Guardiola's men moved one step closer to the treble.

In an all-Manchester affair, City secured a 2-1 victory over United in a sun-soaked Wembley to add the FA Cup to their Premier League title and set the tone for the upcoming Champions League final against Inter.

City had to work hard for their victory and were forced into a mental battle even before kick-off, with some United fans taking the sharpest of shots at Guardiola's side to set the tone for a tense afternoon.

There was one major surprise on the team sheets before kick-off, with United making the surprising decision to give young midfielder 'Casemino' a debut in place of a veteran Brazilian with an eerily similar name.

At least, that's what the Twitter graphic suggested...

Right, it's time for kick-off, let's just get settled down OH IT'S 1-0.

Ilkay Gundogan got things underway from the centre spot and was celebrating 12 seconds later after his scorching volley went fizzing into the top corner, breaking the record for the fastest goal in the history of the FA Cup final.

City would soon be frustrated, however, as Casemiro, evidently a late replacement for Casemino, caught Manuel Akanji high on the ankle with a nasty challenge that resulted in an empty VAR check and, somehow, a free-kick for United.

Half an hour in, the game was paused for another VAR check as Jack Grealish's hand made contact with the ball.

It was a tough one - the sort of decision you want given for you but would be fuming to see giving against you - but Grealish's hand did deflect a cross and so referee Paul Tierney pointed to the spot.

Predictably, up stepped Bruno Fernandes to tie up the score.

United were the happier side heading into the break and their second half got off to a better start as they did not concede a record-setting goal. Baby steps.

Instead, Gundogan had to wait six whole minutes before finding the back of the net.

The German bagged another volley from the edge of the box which was significantly uglier than his opener, bouncing through the box and trickling into David de Gea's bottom corner to leave United fans clenching their fists.

Gundogan was denied a hat-trick with 20 minutes to go as the offside flag was correctly raised to rule out his tap-in, and just seconds later, Alejandro Garnacho nearly bagged his own goal with a glorious curled effort which drifted agonisingly wide.

With United chasing the game, Erik ten Hag turned to his bench and introduced Wout Weghorst for Jadon Sancho.

It's safe to say most United fans were exactly keen to see the Dutchman.

Raphael Varane and Scott McTominay nearly scrambled in a late equaliser but could only watch on in agony as the ball bounced back off the top of the crossbar.

In the end, United's efforts would prove futile as City held on to secure their second piece of silverware of the campaign.
