Ukraine 0-4 England: Player ratings as Three Lions sail into Euro 2020 semi-finals

A Harry Kane brace and goals from Harry Maguire and Jordan Henderson gave England a 4-0 win over Ukraine on Saturday night, as the Three Lions booked their place in the semi-finals of Euro 2020.

It didn't take long at all for the England to find the breakthrough. Within four minutes, Kane was able to latch onto Raheem Sterling's through ball and stab past the onrushing George Bushchan to put England ahead.

Gareth Southgate's men got off to a flying start once again after the interval, taking just one second-half minute to double their lead. Maguire showed the most desire to latch onto Luke Shaw's whipped free kick, heading emphatically past Bushchan.

And it was three within five minutes of the restart. Shaw was once more responsible for a lovely cross, landing the ball straight on the head of Kane, who simply nodded it into the back of the net. Ukraine continued to dissipate and, after 63 minutes, it was 4-0. Mason Mount's corner was met by unchallenged substitute Henderson, who managed to head home for his first England goal.

The win was a formality for some time before the final whistle, allowing England to calmly see out the final minutes. The victory books the Three Lions' place in Euro 2020's last four, where they will meet Denmark at Wembley.

UKRAINE PLAYER RATINGS

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

George Bushchan (GK) - 6/10 - Poor distribution, although made a couple of solid stops - a sensational one to deny Kane a third. Maybe could have done better for the first but had no chance with the other three.

Illya Zabarnyi (CB) - 4/10 - Not his usual composed self. Was shaky on the ball and couldn't really get near the England attackers.

Sergey Kryvstov (CB) - 3/10 - Completely bamboozled by Kane's movement for the opener and was just sloppy before being forced off with injury in the first half.

Mykola Matviyenko (CB) - 6/10 - Read the game to decent effect and wasn't really beaten very often in one on one situations, making six interventions. Left wanting in the second half, though, losing Maguire in the build up to the second England strike.

2. Wing-backs & Midfielders

Alexander Karavaev (RWB) - 5/10 - Always quick to press and put in a foot in but was largely pinned deep and had little opportunity to advance upfield, which is usually a strength of his.

Mykola Shaparenko (CM) - 5/10 - Usually one of Ukraine's creative threats but his less advanced position really stifled his qualities. Tried to be combative but didn't get far and was kept fairly quiet.

Serhiy Sydorchuk (CM) - 6/10 - A decent screen to his back three - then four - as he kept the centre of the field compact. But he couldn't save his side as they fell apart in the second half.

Oleksandr Zinchenko (CM) - 6/10 - Had much more joy after the switch in shape. Began to see more of the ball and was able to make it count with some clever and precise passes courtesy of more runners in behind. Couldn't find a killer pass, however.

Vitaliy Mykolenko (LWB) - 5/10 - Left a lot of space on the left hand side as he marked Jadon Sancho, allowing Walker to get upfield. Tackled well but never looked comfortable and couldn't add anything going forward.

3. Forwards

Andriy Yarmolenko (ST) - 4/10 - Looked off the pace altogether. Couldn't keep up with his team mates when they surged upfield and definitely couldn't match England's intensity.

Roman Yaremchuk (ST) - 6/10 - A handful for his opposition, linking up well with those around him. Caused a lot of trouble when he ran straight at the defence and managed to get a couple of dangerous shots off.

4. Substitutes

Viktor Tsygankov (LW) - 6/10 - Injected a bit if life and spark into Ukraine immediately. Good direct dribbling, great runs in behind and always looking to make something happen. Faded out after the break and lost Henderson in the box for the fourth goal.

ENGLAND PLAYER RATINGS

5. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Jordan Pickford (GK) - 7/10 - As composed as ever. Forced into a key stop in the first half and was rarely troubled after that.

Kyle Walker (RB) - 7/10 - Quick to pick off loose passes and maraud up the right flank. Defensively solid once more, and provided an added width upfield.

John Stones (CB) - 7/10 - Sloppy early on, notably allowing Yaremchuk to surge onto the area and shoot, but regained his composure and remained strong throughout to make four interventions.

Harry Maguire (CB) - 8/10 - Comfortable on the ball and looked assured in his defensive duties. Got a great goal to put his side 2-0 up early in the second period.

Luke Shaw (LB) - 9/10 - Maintained a very advanced position, stretching Ukraine's back line. Brilliantly dangerous throughout, cool in possession and was pivotal in the final third, delivering real quality - notably crosses for Maguire's strike and Kane's second.

6. Midfielders

Declan Rice (CM) - 7/10 - Read the game very well and protected the back four brilliantly. Always positioned himself well to pick off threatening passes, making four interceptions and three clearances.

Kalvin Phillips (CM) - 7/10 - A quieter game than we've seen him have, but was still a bundle of energy throughout. Industrious, efficient and bulldozed his way around the field.

Mason Mount (AM) - 8/10 - Floated around and found little pockets of space effortlessly. Had some lovely, progressive touches in around the Ukraine midfield to link things together and eventually found an assist from a corner.

7. Forwards

Jadon Sancho (RW) - 7/10 - Bright from the outset. Had the opposition scared with his pace and tight control and was always looking to get at his man. Positive and electric throughout, showing his ability to switch the tempo in a second.

Harry Kane (ST) - 9/10 - Like busses, eh Harry? Accomplished finish to put England ahead and was gifted a simple header for his brace. Almost got a hat trick with a ridiculous volley but was denied by Bushchan.

Raheem Sterling (LW) - 9/10 - Blistering start to the game, proving to be unplayable with clever movement and a delicious assist for Kane. Linked with colleagues well and flicked the ball deliciously round the corner for Shaw's second assist of the night.

8. Substitutes

Jordan Henderson (CM) - 7/10 - Headed home clinically for a first England goal.
