Aston Villa are interested in signing Matteo Guendouzi from Marseille this transfer window, 90min understands.

Guendouzi previously worked under Villa boss Unai Emery for a year and a half at former club Arsenal between 2018 and 2019.

Sources have told 90min that the Spanish coach is interested in reuniting with the Frenchman at Villa Park this month. However, Guendouzi is believed to be happy at the Stade Velodrome, while Marseille value the midfielder at around €50m and they are not actively looking to move him on.

Listen now as Scott Saunders hosts Graeme Bailey, Toby Cudworth and Tom Gott in the latest episode of Talking Transfers. After making 82 appearances at Arsenal, Guendouzi appeared to fall out with Emery's successor Mikel Arteta, spending the 2020/21 season on loan at Hertha Berlin before joining Marseille on an initial loan deal that was later made permanent.

He has since broken into the senior France setup and was part of their 26-player 2022 World Cup squad, though was primarily a fringe player during the run to the final in Qatar.

Guendouzi is not the only former player of Emery's that is being targeted by Villa this month. 90min understands Villarreal cohort Pau Torres, Arnaut Danjuma, Samuel Chukwueze and Nicolas Jackson are all on the coach's radar this month.
