United States team news

The big story ahead of the USWNT's clash with Germany is the status of Sophia Smith. The forward was subbed off in the USA's first 2024 Paris Olympic Games match against Zambia in the 43rd minute after suffering a knock that kept her down for several minutes. Although there has yet to be an update on her fitness from Emma Hayes, the injury did not look severe, and the substitution came when the United States were already winning 3-0.

If Smith cannot go against Germany, expect Lynn Williams to start in her place.

Germany team news

Lea Schuller

Germany are one of the dark horses at this summer's Olympics. Although they might not have the same talent on paper as Spain or the United States, Die Nationalelf are not a team to overlook, especially with players like Alexandra Popp and Lea Schuller up top. Wolfsburg's Jule Brand is another player to watch; at just 21-years old, the winger already nine goals for her country, including one in Germany's opening Olympics match.

United States vs Germany score prediction

Although the United States vs Germany has the potential to be a high-scoring affair (both teams scored three goals in their opening fixtures), the match should be a lot closer than people might expect. It is hard to go against the USA, though, who are unbeaten under Emma Hayes, and have yet to concede a goal.

Prediction: United States 2-1 Germany
