The United States youth national team was eliminated from the Paris 2024 Olympics in the quarter-finals after a demoralizing 4-0 loss to Morocco.

Marko Mitrovic's side were played off the pitch in the quarter-finals by Morocco led by Paris Saint-Germain's Achraf Hakimi. A first-half penalty conceded by Nathan Harriel on Soufian Rahimi put the US in a hole heading into the second half. The second goal, scored by Ilias Akohmach in the 63rd minute, the game out of reach. The third and fourth goals including a second penalty conceded by Harriel were just icing on the cake for Morocco.

All eyes turn to Emma Hayes and the women's national team as they aim to bring home a gold medal in Hayes' first major tournament.

United States' Olympics hope lie with the WNT

Head coach Marko Mitrovic did well to right the wrongs by the senior team from Copa America 2024. Getting out of the group stage was the bare minimum for the YNT after the senior team failed to do so on home soil in Copa America. This was the first time the USYNT had advanced to the Olympics knockout stage in 24 years.

After a disappointing loss to France to kick off the tournament, USA defeated New Zealand and Guinea to qualify thanks to performances from captain Tanner Tessmann, Kevin Paredes and others. Morocco was too much for the US to handle and were unable to mount anything substantial throughout the game.

Emma Hayes and the USWNT continue their tournament run on Saturday taking on Japan in the quarter-finals. Hayes is unbeaten since taking the United States job and her side is a favorite to go deep in the competition.

For the men's side, it's time to speculate which players will graduate and take another step toward breaking into the senior team. The next head coach will likely want some competition for places with the goal of fielding the best possible side for the 2026 World Cup on home soil.
