USMNT defender Cameron Carter-Vickers signs new contract with Celtic
- Carter-Vickers joined Celtic in summer 2021 transfer window
- 26-year-old has managed 100 appearances for the Scottish side
- He's lifted five trophies during his time at Celtic Park
Scottish giants Celtic have signed US men's national team defender Cameron Carter-Vickers to new contract through the 2028/29 season.
The new deal for the 26-year-old comes after his stellar performances in his first two-and-a-half seasons with Celtic, as he's managed 101 appearances since joining in the 2021 summer transfer window from Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur.
Carter-Vickers rose through the Spurs academy but never really found his footing with the first team, and went out on loan several times with the likes of Sheffield United, Ipswich Town, Luton Town, Swansea City and AFC Bournemouth.
However, everything changed once he joined Celtic on loan for the 2021/2022 season, as he impressed then-boss Ange Postecoglou to go on and sign him permanently for roughly $7.6m (£6m).
"This is great news for us all that Cameron has extended his contract with the club," Celtic head coach Brendan Rodgers said in a release.
"He has been an absolute rock for us since he joined the club and has played to such a high standard so regularly, week in, week out. He has been such a pillar of strength in our defence and a real leader in the team - I know he is held in such high regard, too, by his teammates."
So far with the Scottish side, Carter-Vickers has registered five goals and two assists as a center-back while lifting two league titles and league cups as well as one Scottish cup.
"I am really delighted to sign this new contract with Celtic. I have loved everything about the club from day one and I am so pleased to have been part of some real successful times across the last few years," Carter-Vickers added.
"You always play the game to win, and being part of some great winning moments with Celtic has been really big for me, a real honour. I have had a great welcome and support from the Celtic fans ever since I came here.
"We all know the love and passion our fans have for the club, there is nothing better than playing at a packed Celtic Park and I am delighted to be playing my football here."
Carter-Vickers has suited up 16 times for the USMNT since his international debut in November 2016 and will no doubt look to continue to impress while playing abroad to earn more caps under head coach Gregg Berhalter.
Celtic, who sit in first place in the Scottish Premiership with 54 points, return to action on January 27 against Ross County at Celtic Park.
