Virgil van Dijk lambasts Man Utd tactics in 0-0 draw with Liverpool

Virgil van Dijk has launched a scathing attack of Manchester United's performance in the 0-0 draw with Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

The two sides played out a rather dire game at Anfield at the weekend, with neither side providing much in the way of entertainment or goalmouth action for the 57,000 strong in attendance.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Liverpool captain Van Dijk was keen to pin the blame for the drab affair on Man Utd, stating that 'only one team tried to win the game':

"If you see how we played the game, we had most of the ball and created some opportunities. There was only one team trying to win the game," said Van Dijk.

"We want to win every game, of course, and that is why it is frustrating. Sometimes we shot too easy and could have passed on the overlap. The right decision was sometimes lacking.

"We carry on, of course, but it is frustrating because we were superior in all aspects. In the end, they are buzzing with a point and we are disappointed with a point. Obviously they are not in the best phase. Coming here you are wary of the threat we have. We should have won it today.

"We have to learn from certain situations and I know we will. Last year we didn't come in with a good feeling towards the Manchester United game and we won the game convincingly, but last year doesn't count now."

The Reds thumped Man Utd 7-0 at Anfield last season, with such an emphatic beating perhaps being the reason why the visitors were so content to sit deep and hold out for a draw this time round.

The stalemate ensured that Liverpool head into their clash with Arsenal next Saturday in second place, having seen the Gunners leapfrog them in the Premier League table with their 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion earlier on Sunday.
