Vivianne Miedema: Jonas Eidevall admits concern after Arsenal forward suffers injury

Jonas Eidevall was unable to provide an update on the serious looking injury sustained by Vivianne Miedema during Arsenal's loss to Lyon on Thursday, but admitted he was 'very concerned' for the Arsenal forward.

An own goal from the unfortunate Frida Maanum saw the Gunners slip to a 1-0 defeat at the Emirates to the European champions, but their quarter-final spot was guaranteed despite the loss. However, the match was marred by the injury suffered by Miedema.

The Dutch international landed awkwardly on her leg as she challenged for the ball on the stroke of half time, immediately gesturing for assistance as she hit the turf. She received treatment on the pitch for several minutes, before being stretchered off with her left leg in a brace and her head in her hands.

“I don’t know [how bad it is]," Eidevall said at full time. "I haven’t spoken to her or the doctor. Right now I am very concerned of course. but we had to stay focused during the game. I’m sorry I don’t have any update at all on that situation."

Miedema's injury came in the third of the three minutes of first half stoppage time, and Rafaelle was introduced at the break in her place. The Gunners were ultimately unable to break down Lyon and net a second half equaliser, but Eidevall insisted Miedema's injury did not impact the half time mood or his team talk.

"After the game we are concerned but [at half-time] we are super professional, we don’t let anything take away our focus from what we are doing," the Arsenal boss added. "The players stick to what we need to do on the pitch, after we are concerned, during we are 100% professional with what we are doing."
