WATCH: Jurgen Klopp winces after watching Man Utd fall to Newcastle

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp could not help but wince after learning Manchester United had lost 3-0 to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup fourth round on Wednesday.

The Reds booked their place in the quarter-final with a 2-1 win over Bournemouth which kicked off half an hour before United's second consecutive 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford.

As he was settling down for his post-match press conference, Klopp was alerted to the fact that Newcastle were 3-0 up against United, and the Liverpool boss was so surprised that he had to check the TV at the back of the room for himself.

"Ooo," Klopp said, before grimacing at the thought of what the immediate future holds for United counterpart Erik ten Hag.

While Klopp had few words for United's defeat, pundit Gary Neville did not shy away from putting his former side on blast.

"At the moment it is worrying stuff for [Ten Hag], losing matches but the performances have been really awful," Neville told Sky Sports. "Even the ones they have won in the last few weeks. Nowhere near good enough.

"You knew if half-decent teams came to Old Trafford they would be back with losses again. You imagine after Sunday [a 3-0 defeat to Manchester City], Ten Hag would have had a message or meeting with the players to lift them for tonight.

"What do you say after this when you have seen it repeated, the same type of performance? Newcastle have made eight changes, what does he say to them, what is he thinking?"
