West Bromwich Albion and US men's national team striker Daryl Dike suffered a torn Achilles injury while in action for the Baggies over the weekend against Ipswich Town.

The American suffered the injury just 10 minutes after coming on as a substitute in West Brom's 2-2 draw with Ipswich Town on Saturday.

It was a devastating moment for Dike, as he recently recovered from a torn Achilles tendon suffered in April 2023 and made his 2023/24 season debut for West Brom on January 7 against Aldershot Town in the FA Cup, where he scored in a 45-minute cameo. The two tears are unrelated, as the most recent occurred on his left leg after the previous issues was sustained in his right.

"Albion can confirm Daryl Dike will be out until the end of 2024 after suffering an Achilles tendon injury at Ipswich Town on Saturday," the club said in a statement.

Dike has endured terrible injury luck so far in his young career that's seen him take on stints with MLS' Orlando City as well as a loan spell with Barnsley in the EFL Championship. The Edmond, Oklahoma native has missed 82 total games in his career due to injury, and that number is set to increase after suffering a torn Achilles tendon for the second time in his career.

Dike thanked his supporters for their kind messages and is more than eager to begin the road to recovery.

"As many of you know, I have been injured multiple times and it has made it easy for me to think negatively," Dike said in a message on X.

"Luckily this support has pushed many positive thoughts back in. No matter how many times I get knocked down, I will keep getting back up.

"No words can be expressed to explain my appreciation towards you all. When the success comes (and it will come), we will all be ready to celebrate together."

West Brom, fifth in the Championship table with 49 points from 30 games played, return to action in the Championship on Tuesday night to take on Cardiff City at the Hawthorns.
