The West Ham United squad are willing the club's hierarchy to hand manager David Moyes a new contract extension, following an impressive start to the 2020/21 season.

After re-signing as West Ham boss in December 2019 on an 18-month deal, Moyes is now well into his second spell with the east London club.

Despite a disappointing 16th-placed finish last season, Moyes' side have impressed post-lockdown in 2020, while they have won two and drawn two of their first six games of this campaign.

That form includes impressive victories over Wolves and Leicester, while the form of Michail Antonio and signings of Brentford star Said Benrahma and Tomas Soucek have given West Ham fans plenty of reasons to be optimistic.

The Daily Mail report that, with Moyes' current deal set to expire in the summer of 2021, 'a number of the club's most influential players' want their manager's future secured soon.

However, it remains to be seen whether club owners David Sullivan and David Gold are prepared to move contract talks forward just yet and could hold out to see if the recent good form lasts further into the season.

The Mail's report suggests that the Hammers' hierarchy may only open talks with Moyes over an extension at the start of 2021.

It is added that both Moyes and the club remain 'relaxed' by the situation, while a performance-related clause in the former Manchester United manager's current deal could yet trigger an automatic extension.

Following impressive draws with Tottenham and Manchester City, West Ham are unbeaten since September. They travel to Anfield on 31 October to take on Premier League champions Liverpool, before welcoming Fulham to the London Stadium on 7 November.
