Emma Hayes is set to depart Chelsea at the end of the current campaign, bringing her 11-year association with the Blues to a close.
Having built one of the most successful club sides around, Hayes is now expected to take her talents to international football with the United States, who are on the hunt for a new manager after Vlatko Andonovski resigned in the aftermath of the 2023 Women's World Cup.
In a mixed zone during the tournament, Hayes was asked whether she would be interested in taking charge of the United States.
"Well I suspected that question would come up! Listen I'm very happy at Chelsea, I've made that clear," she began. "I've been there for 11 years, it's my home.
"I think the US has wonderful players and perhaps the tournament didn't go the way they wanted but my focus is on getting home and preparing the team for the start of the season."
Quizzed on the country's development of young players, Hayes added: "You know, it's impossible for me to answer that question. I work in England and I’ve been outside the US for such a long time, I don’t know what's currently happening for me to feel comfortable commenting on it.
"But it is an amazing country with amazing players and I’m sure they will return to the top level again."
Born in London, Hayes began her managerial career in the United States with Long Island Lady Riders, where she spent two years before taking over at Iona College in New York in 2003.
She returned to England as an assistant with Arsenal before heading back to first-team management with Chicago Red Stars, after which she spent time in consultancy roles with both Western New York Flash and Washington Freedom.
A brief stint away from football followed, before Hayes was hired by Chelsea in 2012 and became the first manager to be inducted into the WSL Hall of Fame in 2021.
