What happened on the final day of the WSL?
By Emily Keogh
On the final day of the WSL, the title and relegation races only need to be decided in one match, while a surprise loss failed to have an impact on the third place race.
Here is everything that happened on a sunny last day of the WSL season.
Chelsea clinch fourth consecutive WSL title
Chelsea's 3-0 win at Reading earned them the WSL title for a fourth successive year.
It almost seemed inevitable given how formidable Emma Hayes' side have been all season and a successful defence of their title seemed on the cards despite suffering losses to Liverpool and Manchester City.
Sam Kerr and Guro Reiten's partnership has been formidable all season and they were both on the scoresheet one last time. Chelsea bid farewell to Bayern Munich-bound Magdalena Erikkson and Pernille Harder with one final trophy.
Winning the double for a second consecutive season also makes up for failing to make the Champions League final last month.
Manchester United beat Liverpool 1-0 up at Prenton Park but their title charge came to an end.
Reading relegated back to the Championship
On the flip side of Chelsea's win were Reading, who are heading back to the Championship season. Kelly Chambers has ultimately failed to rebuild her side to take them out of the drop zone.
Leicester managed to beat fellow strugglers Brighton 1-0, so even if the Royals came up with a miraculous victory they still wouldn't have survived.
Reading continually threw away leads this season and have paid the price for winning just three games out of a possible 22.
Arsenal clinch final Champions League spot
Suffering a loss to Aston Villa at home on the final day is not how Arsenal would have wanted to finish the season, but it hardly mattered in the end. Rachel Daly and Alisha Lehmann set the visitors on course for a 2-0 victory but the Gunners were unable to
Manchester City beat Everton 3-2 meaning they were unable to over turn the hefty goal difference deficit and had to settle for fourth place.
Arsenal's season has been plagued by serious injuries but they were at least able to reach the Champions League semi-finals and qualify for next season's competition.
England left-back wins the Golden Boot
Rachel Daly, formidable forward turned defender turned star striker again, won the Golden Boot with 22 goals, matching Vivianne Miedema's record of most goals in a WSL season.
Aston Villa flew to an impressive fifth-place finish, and Daly's importance and contribution to the side has been immense.
Daly edged out Manchester City striker Bunny Shaw by two goals to take home the gong.
