When it's all said and done, the 2022/23 La Liga season won't be looked back upon with much fondness.

Scandals and continued racism issues often undermined the actual football, as Barcelona lifted their first title since 2019 following a period of Madrid supremacy.

The lengthy campaign finally drew to a close at the start of June. meaning the turnaround heading into 2023/24 is swift. Thus, with no summer tournament to occupy us, 'next' season has already been thrust to the forefront of our minds.

La Liga is set for another early August start, but plenty has to go down before we reach that point, starting with the fixtures release.


When are the 2023/24 La Liga season fixtures released?

La Liga announced that the fixtures for the 2023/24 season will be released on Thursday 22 June 2023, a week after the Premier League dropped their dates.

The Spanish top flight are notorious for last-minute alterations and fluctuating kick-off times, so any fixture list that is revealed should be treated cautiously as a first draft.

The 2023/24 La Liga season gets underway on Saturday 12 August. Despite the absence of a winter World Cup this time around, the upcoming campaign will start on exactly the same date as it did this season.

It's believed that the following summer's Euros has played a role in the La Liga campaign's early start, with teams also enjoying a winter break over the festive period. The break begins on 20 December and is expected to last until the start of the new year.


When does the 2023/24 La Liga season end?

It's another lengthy season as La Liga's final round of fixtures has been pencilled in for 26 May 2024.

Thus, should a Spanish participant in next season's Champions League make it all the way to the final at Wembley, they'll have just one week to prepare following the conclusion of the domestic league.

Euro 2024, meanwhile, gets underway on 14 June.

The 2022/23 La Liga relegation scrap went down to the final day where Real Valladolid eventually succumbed to the second tier alongside Espanyol and Elche.

Granada are back in the top flight following a brief absence after winning the Segunda Division, and they've been joined in La Liga by Las Palmas, once the home of Barcelona sensation Pedri. It's been five years since Las Palmas competed in the top division.

Levante and Alaves then competed in a two-legged play-off final to decide who would return to La Liga after spending just one year in the second tier. It was Alaves who were triumphant 1-0 on aggregate thanks to Asier Villalibre's penalty in the 120th minute in extra time of the second leg.
