Last 16 fixtures and results
The first four teams to secure safe passage through to the Champions League quarter-finals were Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Man City and Real Madrid.
The German giants had to do it the hard way after a dismal defeat in Rome against Lazio, winning the second leg 3-0, while PSG saw out a comfortable 4-1 aggregate success by winning both matches against Real Sociedad. The next night, City scored three goals in a Champions League game for the eighth successive time this season to beat Copenhagen 6-2 on aggregate, while Madrid had a much closer tie against RB Leipzig.
On their return to the Champions League, Arsenal reached the quarter-finals for the first time since 2009/10, ending a run of seven consecutive eliminations in the last 16 by downing Porto on penalties. They were joined in the last eight on the same night by Barcelona, who proved too strong for Napoli despite their many injury worries.
Jadon Sancho's early goal helped Borussia Dortmund get past PSV Eindhoven, with the Germans eventually sealing a 3-1 aggregate win to reach the last eight for only the second time since 2017. A little later that evening, Atletico Madrid became the eighth and final side to progress, winning 3-2 in a penalty shootout against Inter after a 2-2 draw on aggregate. Inter were just minutes away from getting through in normal time, until an 87th-minute Memphis Depay goal forced extra-time.

Who are the favourites to win the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League?
After securing a treble in 2022/23, Man City have been heavily backed by fans to win the Champions League for the second season on the trot. Given how they've performed since the turn of 2024, the Cityzens looked primed to at least reach the semi-finals, but their quarter-final tie with Real Madrid is hardly an easy brace of games.
The La Liga champions in waiting just need to keep some of their key stars fit - Jude Bellingham and Antonio Rudiger are two key performers who have been sidelined in recent months - to give themselves the best chance of success.
Arsenal's incredible run to start the year means the Gunners must be considered after overturning a first-leg deficit against Porto, but Mikel Arteta must negotiate another mental hurdle in their matches against Bayern Munich.
